Shedeur Sanders’ future as their number one quarterback took a major hit at the NFL Combine this week.

Draft prospect and Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson has expressed his desire to don the Cleveland Browns jersey, citing his father’s connection with the head coach, Todd Monken.

Ty Simpson spoke to reporters with enthusiasm, saying, “It'd be exciting. My dad and Coach Monk go way back. They talk often, and he texted him when he got the job. If I had the opportunity to play for the Browns, it would be a dream come true.

His father, Jason Simpson, was a Southern Miss alumnus when Todd Monken was the head coach. Given this, Ty Simpson is excited about the opportunity to work with Monken.

“I think I would be in great hands with the team that they have, the organization. And then Coach Monk and what he does with quarterbacks and the offense is super friendly. I think that he is going to coach me hard and he's going to do it in the right way," Simpson said.

Monken, too, for his part, has showered praise on the young Alabama quarterback. "I like Ty a lot. Really good football player.”

Simpson had a great last season for Alabama, scoring 28 passing touchdowns and throwing 3,567 yards.

The quarterback position at the Browns is in a state of flux. Sanders, while showing his ability in stages, has yet to nail down the starting position at the Browns.

The Browns' front office and Monken may want to take a punt on the young Ty Simpson, given their quarterback struggles.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to rope in Ty Simpson and develop him for a future starting position and as a backup for veteran Aaron Rodgers this season.

Simpson has clearly impressed the NFL Coaches with his plays at Alabama and is projected to be a round 1 pick in the upcoming draft.

Despite his limited experience, he has drawn eyeballs at the draft, and the Steelers and Browns could be in for a tussle if they are to land the young rookie.
