NFL Analyst Urges Browns to Avoid Draft Mistake & Target 1,872-Yard WR

The Cleveland Browns possess the number 6 overall draft pick and are faced with a difficult decision on whom to take. Seems like NFL analyst Ryan Wilson has a solution.

Early indications suggested that the Browns were eyeing offensive tackle Monroe Freeling from the Georgia Bulldogs football team.

However, talking on this Tuesday's episode of the 92.3 The Fan podcast, Wilson cautioned the Browns against taking Freeling and believes it would be a mistake.

“Yes, six is too high for Monroe Freeling. He’s a good player, but to me, he’s a first-round, second-round guy,” Wilson said.

Instead, he named Carnell Tate, the Ohio State Buckeyes’ wide receiver, as a better pick to be drafted at the number 6 position.

“If we’re sitting there at six and the conversation is Carnell Tate or Monroe Freeling, I’m running up there to get Carnell Tate. Carnell Tate would be the WR1, the second his name is announced.”

Carnell Tate is a standout wide receiver who has recorded 1,872 receiving yards in his college football career. He is coming off a strong season where he racked up a further 875 yards, his highest yet in a single season.

He would be a good addition as the incumbent wide receiver, Jerry Jeudy, has struggled for consistency despite earning Pro Bowl honors in 2024. The juggling quarterback position has not helped his cause.

With the Browns looking at Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders to fill the quarterback position, a strong wide receiver like Tate can help build a strong offense.

But Freeling, a strong offensive lineman, recently showcased his ability at the NFL Combine, adding further uncertainty to the Browns.

Monroe Freeling’s Strong NFL Combine Performance Adds Further Dilemma

At the 2026 NFL Combine, the 6’7” prospect who weighs in at 315 pounds ran the 40-yard dash in 4.93 seconds.

He scored an impressive 9.99 RAS (relative athletic score) out of a possible 10.00. This score was the second-highest out of 1,512 offensive tackles in nearly four decades.

He was also a force to be reckoned with as he was called for just two penalties at Georgia last season, which could give the Browns much-needed discipline at the Line of scrimmage.

Freeling also has some connections at the Browns with new head coach Todd Monken, also from Georgia, where he served as the offensive coordinator from 2020 to 2022.
