LA Chargers’ Schedule Release Video Draws Mixed Reactions From NFL Fans

For the past three years, whenever the NFL releases its schedule, the Los Angeles Chargers have not failed to impress with their creativity.

This year, the Chargers went with a Halo-themed schedule video. The clip gives fans a full breakdown of the season through the lens of the video game, taking them on a fun ride as it explains the team’s week-by-week opponents through different levels, missions, and challenges across the 17-game schedule.

This is not the first time the Chargers have handled the schedule release in this kind of way. In fact, it has become part of their identity at this point.

In 2022, it was an anime-focused production. In 2024, it was built around The Sims. Last year, it moved into the Minecraft universe.

“Your brain should always be thinking in schedule-releases terms,” Chargers director of creative video David Bretto told USA TODAY Sports. “We’re constantly on the search for what we’re going to do in next year’s schedule release (video).”

With social media becoming a bigger part of the NFL conversation, schedule release day has turned into something fun in the middle of a season that is usually defined by pressure, expectations, and competition.

“So many things in the NFL are serious and it’s about the game and the competition,” Atlanta Falcons chief marketing officer Shannon Joyner said. “I think NFL schedule-release night is that one NFL roast, where teams are able to let loose for a little bit.”

But as the Chargers took a fun swing at their schedule, fans had their own views on the video.

Chargers Fans Split Over The Halo-Themed Reveal

As the team posted the clip on social media, fans rushed to share their excitement and praise for the Chargers’ creativity.

“This may be the greatest NFL schedule video of all time,” a fan chimed in.

Another fan went a step further and suggested the Chargers’ social media team deserved a bigger paycheck for the work they continue to put out.

“The Chargers doing their schedule release in Halo is the most creative thing an NFL team has done on schedule release day and it is not even close. Whoever runs this social media account needs a raise immediately. The Bolts are operating in a completely different galaxy than every other team,” wrote another.

However, some felt the Halo theme was not the right fit for the NFL audience.

“No……over half the fans won’t even know what Halo is,” another said.

One took a sarcastic jab at the team by posting a GIF of a supporter holding a Chargers jersey with “Rings #0,” a clear reference to the franchise’s Super Bowl drought.

“This is genuinely incredible. I am so glad y’all finally found out what you’re good at,” said a fan.

Similarly, another pointed out that the Chargers have never won a Super Bowl, yet still continue to lean into ambitious and hyper-creative schedule-release concepts.

“Making a Halo-themed schedule release before winning a Super Bowl is exactly why the Chargers are the Chargers,” wrote another.
