Jaxson Dart Claps Back Against Fan Criticism Over Risky Playstyle: "I've Missed 2 Games"
Rookie New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart does not want to change his playstyle over criticism from football enthusiasts and fans. Dart believes his physical style is what he started with, and it has helped him get to where he is today. He has no plans of toning down his play.
Speaking on Fantasy Football Happy Hour, when questioned about his aggressive gameplay, he said, “I have played a certain way my whole life, and it’s gotten me to this point in my career. I think it would be foolish for me to change myself and play like a pocket passer or play completely different. I have played big time football for four or five years and I’ve missed 2 games. When you look at an availability standpoint, I’m out there for my team and I’m someone you can count on.”
Jaxson Dart has always been an aggressive runner who invites contact to gain yards for the team. In the 2025 season, he scored 9 rushing touchdowns, covering 487 rushing yards and averaging 5.7 yards per attempt.
However, he also took 35 sacks. His playstyle can help the team cover that extra yard, but it can also leave the quarterback at risk of injury. His critics have pointed out the concussion he suffered against the Chicago Bears in November that sidelined him for two weeks.
Responding to this, Dart further added, “I took some hits for sure, and there were moments where I gotta be smarter in this situation. That's just a maturing thing and continuing to grow. People are gonna take hits; there’s a lot of quarterbacks taking a lot of big hits that people weren't talking about media-wise. It was just a narrative that got on about me”
Dart is referring to some other big names that are known to take hits, like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. Still, critics point out that Mahomes and Allen know when to protect themselves and slide, something that the rookie has to balance out in his young career going forward.
Comparing other physical quarterbacks this past season
Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen likes to take control of the game with his physicality. In the 2025 season, he recorded 579 rushing yards with 14 rushing touchdowns.
Patrick Mahomes, on the other hand, recorded 422 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. However, he is known to use his situational awareness to know when to rush.
Lamar Jackson, for instance, is a dual-threat quarterback who recorded 349 rushing yards.
With Matt Nagy joining John Harbaugh at the Giants, Jaxson Dart can grow into the superstar role, just as Patrick Mahomes did under Nagy.
