Shedeur Sanders has had his fair share of media attention ever since he entered college football.

A fresh wave of scrutiny hit the young quarterback as Dov Kleinman reposted an old quote, where Shedeur claimed his father had not set him up with a trust fund.

In 2024, when Colorado was up against Baylor, trailing 31-24, Sanders threw a last-minute Hail Mary that was caught by Lajohntay Wester. This tied the game and then went to overtime, where the Buffaloes clinched a win.

After the game, when reporters asked Sanders where his resilience came from, Sanders said, "You don't have an option. That comes from your parents, how you were raised. People say, 'What's your plan B?' No, it's only football, that's the only plan there is. I don't have a trust fund, Dad ain't set me up good like that, but I'll set up my kids with a trust fund."

Sanders earlier played for his father at Jackson State Tigers before moving to Colorado Buffaloes, where Deion Sanders took up the head coach job.

During the draft, Sanders came under heavy scrutiny for hosting a party before the draft took place. It came as a big surprise to the Sanders family when Shedeur was drafted in round 5 as the 144^th overall pick.

Having a high-profile parent like NFL legend Deion Sanders comes with its fair share of criticisms. When Dov Kleinman reposted Sanders’ trust fund comment, fans were quick to pour in with their reactions.

Fans called out Shedeur for out-of-touch comments

Despite not getting a trust fund handout, fans remain skeptical about Shedeur’s resurfaced comments.

Fans are of the opinion that Shedeur has enjoyed the benefits of having Deion Sanders as his father.

One fan wrote, “Lmao. This is stupid. Just because you don’t have a trust fund doesn’t mean you don’t have some type of security. Being Deion’s son alone gives him an advantage.”

Fans also commented on Sanders’ privileged upbringing, noting the expensive cars and watches he uses. “That’s why he rolls with million-dollar watches and expensive a** cars around town in college.”

Some fans were confused about what Sanders was trying to say via his comments.

“Is he trying to convince us he was raised in the streets and he needs football to get out of the projects, ox this what he’s telling us??” one fan chimed in.

The fans are also not convinced that Shedeur is a “star” yet, having just signed for the Browns last season and started only 7 games.

“Star? Dude’s barely played. Let him play a season before we go there,” one fan commented.

If Shedeur Sanders starts the new season as the number 1 quarterback, he will be keen to prove his critics wrong and establish his place in the Cleveland Browns roster.
