Emotional Stefon Diggs Drops Concerning Update Over Patriots Future After Super Bowl Loss
The heartbreaking 29-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks has left New England Patriots’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs visibly upset as his wait for an elusive Super Bowl victory continues. He was seen leaving the field in tears, and fans were left wondering if he would continue next season.
Diggs later said, “S***, I hope so”, when questioned on his future with the Patriots. He admitted that the Patriots got outplayed by the better team. “We got beat by a good team”, he said to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. Diggs only had three receptions for 37 yards on three targets, with Drake Maye unable to find the wide receiver consistently.
Stefon Diggs finished the season with 1,013 yards with 4 touchdowns and formed a great partnership with Drake Maye. The Patriots ended with a 14-3 regular season before they went past the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, and Denver Broncos to reach the Super Bowl.
Diggs signed a three-year deal with the Patriots back in March, with $69 million in the 2025 season. He was previously with the Houston Texans, with his time ending due to an ACL tear he suffered.
Having first been drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015 and upon reaching the Super Bowl for the first time in 11 seasons, it is understandable that Stefon Diggs was devastated.
Head Coach Mike Vrabel is confident of the New England Patriots’ future
Given Diggs’s standout season, head coach Mike Vrabel will be keen to keep his wide receiver and build his team around the veteran wide receiver and young quarterback, Drake Maye, in the hopes of reaching the Super Bowl next season.
After the game, he spoke to reporters, saying, “Disappointed. I reminded them that we’re 307 days into what hopefully is a long, successful relationship and program,” via Pro Football Talk. “It’s OK to be disappointed. We have to be disappointed and upset together. Every year, somebody’s going to lose this game. We have to remember what it feels like and make sure it’s not repeatable."
The Patriots’ fans will certainly hope that this Super Bowl appearance was not a one-off as they look to shake off the post-Tom Brady phase.
Do you think that Mike Vrabel can build a long-term, successful team? Let us know in the comments.
