“You go back to Deshaun” - Browns radio host weighs in on Shedeur Sanders’ future

The Browns are 3-1 and have Deshaun Watson at the center of their quarterback plans. But an injury could open the door for Shedeur Sanders to take over and potentially change the conversation around Cleveland’s QB1.

Speaking on The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima, Carman addressed a scenario where Watson gets injured, and Sanders takes over. If the rookie then keeps Cleveland winning while Watson recovers, the Browns radio host believes team officials would discuss whether to return to Watson once he was healthy again.

Carman acknowledged that the situation may seem unnecessary to discuss given Cleveland’s 3-1 start. Still, he believes the possibility would be part of the internal conversation:

“It’s 3-1, and it sounds like we’re making up disaster scenarios. I wonder if the bottom is gonna drop out on Deshaun and we do actually get to Shedeur. However, this injury scenario that plays out here, [and] it is something that they discuss.”

Carman then addressed the key question: what happens if Sanders keeps winning after taking Watson’s place? His answer was definitive:

“So while it seems like a waste of time, it’s something—I guarantee—they discuss in the conversation. Is it where do you go back to Deshaun once he’s healthy if you’re still winning games with Shedeur? You do! You go back to Deshaun.”

Carman therefore expects Watson to reclaim the job, even if Sanders succeeds during his absence.

Cleveland’s quarterback depth could become a major storyline

Shedeur Sanders gives Cleveland another option behind Deshaun Watson and could become more important if an injury forces the Browns to turn to him.

Dillon Gabriel also adds depth to the quarterback room. If Sanders performs well and Cleveland keeps winning, the Browns could face greater scrutiny over their quarterback hierarchy once Watson returns.
