Worst Trade in NFL History: Andrew Berry Warned Against Major Myles Garrett Mistake

Cleveland Browns GM Andrew Berry is being warned not to make another franchise-altering mistake. After the fallout from the Deshaun Watson deal, one analyst says trading Myles Garrett would be a disaster.

Browns expert Daryl Ruiter, who has criticized Berry on the Deshaun Watson trade, is warning him against it.

In Sunday’s episode of 92.3 The Fan, Nick Pedone and Ruiter discussed Garrett’s trade rumors and their implications on Berry’s career.

“Andrew Berry's probably in the worst spot... Your legacy right now is that Deshaun Watson trade. And you don't want your legacy as the guy that made the worst trade in football history and had to follow that up by trading the greatest defensive player of this generation,” Ruiter warned.

It is widely believed that Berry handpicked Watson after his seasons with the Houston Texans. The Browns reportedly signed him despite pushback from former head coach Kevin Stefanski.

They eventually offered him a five-year guaranteed contract worth $230 million. However, in the last four years, Watson has played in only 19 games due to repeated injuries.

Without Myles Garrett, the Browns' best aspect may collapse

The offence is already a weak link for the Browns. But their defence has always been elite. In 2025, ot ranked 4th best with 283.6 yards per game. And Ruiter is concerned that Berry might create another weakness by trading Garrett, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year.

“The prospect of potentially trading the greatest defensive player in franchise history, a generational talent, a future hall of famer who, quite frankly, is sick and tired of losing. You guys have been b*** for 30 years,” Ruiter stated before Pedone agreed with him.

Back in January 2025, Garrett confessed that he could not achieve his lifelong dream of winning a Super Bowl Championship with the Browns. And asked for a trade in the 2025 preseason.

The management acted quickly and offered him a four-year extension worth $160 million. But Berry must give Garrett what he truly wants: a winning team.

Last season, Garrett surpassed the NFL record for most sacks in a season and set a new one with 23. His jersey and helmet were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

While Garrett is the face of the Browns' defence, whether he stays is up to Berry.
