“Who are you?” Eagles legend fires back at Baker Mayfield over trash talk incident

Netflix's docuseries Quarterback has reignited debate around Baker Mayfield after his tense exchange with Quinyon Mitchell resurfaced. A Philadelphia Eagles legend openly questioned the veteran quarterback's behavior.

“The problem is when dudes are regular or above average, we want to hype them up and y’all rather support and give love to dudes like Baker Mayfield or Sam Darnold, but disrespect guys like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson,” LeSean McCoy said during Wednesday’s segment of the Speakeasy podcast.

Season 3 of Netflix's Quarterback offered an unfiltered look at Mayfield, including his fiery exchange with Mitchell during a Week 4 NFL clash against the Eagles. As emotions boiled over, the Buccaneers quarterback shouted, "Who the f*** are you, anyway?"

LeSean McCoy, speaking on the Speakeasy Podcast, said Baker Mayfield's behavior didn't sit well with him, arguing that the Buccaneers QB is still not at the same level as Allen or Jackson to warrant asking Mitchell who he is.

“So now these dudes are not on the same level; they hear y’all talking about them, and they feel like they can come up and say something to Quinyon Mitchell, like, ‘Who are you? One dude is an All-Pro, the other guy has never been that,” said McCoy.

Mayfield's trash talk initially seemed to work when the Buccaneers' offensive line had to hold back a heated Mitchell.

However, the Eagles' rookie got the ultimate revenge on the stat sheet: he racked up five tackles and five pass breakups, took home NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors, and eventually locked in First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl nods by his second season.

The Eagles cruised to a 31-25 victory over the Buccaneers that day.

That said, while McCoy aimed at Mayfield, former Browns safety T.J. Ward believes the Buccaneers quarterback did nothing wrong that day.

While LeSean McCoy continued his rant against Baker Mayfield, T.J. Ward came to the quarterback's defense, saying it was nothing more than an in-game heated moment and didn't mean Mayfield had no idea who Quinyon Mitchell was.

“Hey, he did win a playoff game with the Cleveland Browns. Let's give him a little more credit. Now, we know he knows exactly who the h*** Quinyon Mitchell is. That's that head-game s***. Baker, you watch a film. You'd better watch the film on who your opponent is,” said T.J. Ward on the same podcast.

And that certainly seems to be the case. Mayfield never intended to disrespect Mitchell, revealing in the Netflix docuseries that he plays significantly better when fueling his own competitive edge against opponents.

“I do think I play better when I trash-talk,” Mayfield says in the docuseries, per Sports Illustrated. “Gives me an edge. Gets me going. I’ve learned you’ve gotta have some things ready to roll. You’ve got to keep a couple in the holster. A couple in the chamber.”
