"What's The Debate": NFL Legend Urges Browns to Commit to Shedeur Sanders as QB1

Hall of Fame icon Emmitt Smith believes that the Cleveland Browns should hand the keys to Shedeur Sanders immediately.

Smith recently took to the Up & Adams Show and shredded the Cleveland front office for failing to show the same faith in Sanders that other franchises grant their young stars.

“I guess coaches want to make sure that guys know that there is no security... No one wants to hand anything to them," Smith said. "This is the way they’re treating Shedeur.”

With QBs Dillon Gabriel and Deshaun Watson still looming in the quarterback room, Smith didn't mince words.“What does Cleveland have? Absolutely nothing. What’s the debate? Are you going to give it to Dillon again?”

Talks about Shedeur's future intensified after Cleveland's new head coach, Todd Monken, said, “I think like any position on the team, that’s still to be determined. Am I excited about Shedeur? Am I excited about all the quarterbacks in the room? Absolutely.”

The 23-year-old quarterback’s performance in his rookie season doesn’t give much confidence. In 7 starts, Shedeur scored 7 touchdowns and threw for 1,400 yards. However, he also threw 10 interceptions and was sacked 23 times.

Shedeur Sanders on His Place in the Team

Although he slipped to a fifth-round pick, Shedeur Sanders was never short of confidence.

In a conversation with Kay Adams earlier this week, the 23-year-old was proud of the flashes he displayed during his first NFL action.

"You can see it. It’s kind of like mastering how to get to that place all the time," he said. "You have flashes. That’s the most thing I appreciate about this year is that I proved to myself I’m able to dominate the league," added Sanders.

Sanders stated that he aimed to show these flashes consistently. With Monken still not decisive about the quarterback position, do you think he will start the first game? Let us know in the comments!
