“We Had That Horrible Record”: Patriots Owner Makes Honest Drake Maye Confession Over Tom Brady Comparisons

Drake Maye is in his first Championship game, and the Tom Brady comparisons are not slowing down. This time, Patriots' owner Robert Kraft has another massive similarity between the two, and it comes from a horrible record.

He recently appeared on ESPN’s pregame coverage. Kraft loved Maye’s humility and the respect he had for his teammates, even after a poor rookie season, something similar to Brady.

“I saw Drake last year when we had that horrible record [4-13]; he did something that Tommy did in the locker room in the early years. He used to go around to every offensive lineman, even after we had a bad loss, and, in a genuine way, make them feel that he really respected what they did.”

Back in 2021, he gave them IWC watches. And before that, he's presented them iPads and even Audis!

"Those guys have worked their tails off," he said at the time. "There’s a lot of guys that have been in and out of the line-up. We’ve had different guys step in at different times... I’m just appreciative of those guys for their commitment. It’s a great group of guys..."

Similarly, Maye has done something similar for his OL. For Christmas in 2025, he presented them with a gift: their own saunas shipped to their homes.

As Morgan Moses summarized, "It’s always a blessing to have someone who cares enough about you to get you something."

But That's Not the Only Tom Brady-Drake Maye Similarity

Both Maye and Brady were slow to take the QB1 role for the Patriots, but their production became similar once they settled in.

In the 2002 season, Brady ended the year with 28 touchdowns and 3,764 yards. This season, Maye ended the year with 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns.

However, Maye has the chance to overtake the NFL legend in one area. Brady has 133 rushing yards in the postseason after all his years in the sport. Drake Maye already has 76 this season alone. If he carries the ball through the Championship game, and if he makes it, the Super Bowl, he could overtake Brady.
