Veteran Defensive Lineman Re-Signs With Browns Ahead of 2026
The Cleveland Browns had one of the best defensive showings in 2025, and this latest re-signing of Sam Kamara will ensure the defense stays intact.
Camerone Wolfe of the NFL Network was the first to report the news of the Cleveland Browns bringing back defensive lineman Kamara for another season. He cited the player's agency, LAA, as the source of the information.
So far, there is no news on the length of his deal, nor the salary he will earn. According to Sportrac, Kamara had a one-year, $1.1 million deal in 2025.
The Chicago Bears signed Sam Kamara as an undrafted free agent, and he will now enter his fourth NFL season. The lineman has been with the Cleveland Browns since 2022 and will return to Huntington Bank Field this fall.
The 28-year-old, standing at 6’0 and 272 pounds, has played 25 games in his professional career. Kamara has recorded 38 total tackles, of which 24 were solo, and six tackles leading to a loss of yardage.
The Cleveland Browns ranked fourth in overall defense in the NFL out of 32 teams. The Browns only gave up about 4.8 yards per play, making them an elite defensive unit.
They were absolutely incredible on the pass rush, with the unit having 53 sacks led by captain and star edge rusher Myles Garrett, who had 23 sacks alone, making it an NFL record. Similarly, there are others on the Browns team that Kamara can rely on.
Who Else Makes Up the Defensive Line of the Browns?
While Kamara is listed as a defensive tackle, he can also play defensive end.
The defensive tackles include Maliek Collins, Mike Hall Jr., and Sam Kamara. Collins, the starter, is currently questionable (Q) on the depth chart for the Browns.
The former Nebraska Cornhusker had an important 2025 season, in which he played 12 games, recorded 6.5 sacks, and recovered 1 fumble.
The second-string defensive lineman, Mike Hall Jr., saw lesser playing time but appeared in nine games and had 25 total tackles and 2.5 sacks to his name.
The Browns have also been busy this offseason, bringing in defensive tackle Kalia Davis and defensive ends A.J. Epenesa and Julian Okwara not only to fill gaps in the defense but also to add depth to their rotations.
Sam Kamara did not see any playing time, but now that their starter defensive lineman is questionable, perhaps Kamara can get some snaps in the 2026 NFL season.
What do you think of the Browns re-signing Kamara? Let us know in the comments.
