2026 NFL Draft: 4 Big Takeaways From Cleveland Browns’ Performance

The 2026 NFL Draft was Todd Monken's first as the Cleveland Browns' head coach. The Browns made a strong impression in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft and added 10 players to their roster. Here are the four big takeaways from the Browns' draft moves.

Cleveland's debut HC Todd Monken's Offensive Additions in the 2026 Draft

By Day 2 of the draft, Monken "felt better" and was significantly reassured with Andrew Berry’s offensive picks.

The Browns ticked off one of the biggest priorities by picking wide receivers KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston in Round 1 with No.24 and No.39 picks, respectively.

Along with the duo, they used their first pick in Round 1, No.9, to add offensive tackle Spencer Fano to the mix by trading down with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Browns also picked a quarterback, Taylen Green, alongside linemen Austin Barber and Parker Brailsford.

With these picks, offensive-minded Monken and offense coordinator Travis Switzer have much to work with and rise above last season's offense, which ranked No.30, averaging 262.1 yards.

Andrew Berry's Draft Strategy Draws Positive Results for Cleveland

With a Harvard background and time spent learning under Howie Roseman in Philadelphia, Berry has adopted an analytics-based philosophy as the Browns' general manager.

In a report, YardBarker wrote that Berry “found a way to assemble all of those players in the top 60, which instantly earned this class a remarkable grade nationally.”

Berry managed to select all the players his front office had been targeting all these weeks.

The Browns Are Already Working Towards 2027

Walking into the 2026 season, a quarterback competition is brewing. Reports suggest that the 2027 quarterback class is going to be a sought-after one.

Thinking ahead of time, instead of using all their picks now, Cleveland traded around to collect extra future picks. Berry traded away pick No. 70 to the New York Giants in exchange for the No. 105 and 145 slots, and a 2027 fourth-rounder.

In 2027, the Browns could take that same approach, but for a quarterback. With extra picks in hand, they’ll be in a strong position to trade up and land their target player if needed.

The Browns Have Another Quarterback

The franchise waited till round 6 to choose a quarterback. During this year’s NFL Combine, Green completed his 40-yard dash in just 4.37 seconds. It was the fastest by a quarterback since 2003.

The Browns' quarterback also surpassed Anthony Richardson in two other categories. He posted a 43.5-inch vertical, an 11’2” broad jump.

Green is a dual-threat quarterback whose standing in the depth chart is not confirmed, but he is praised by Monken and Berry alike. Even though some people thought he might switch positions, the team sees him strictly as a quarterback.

He is not expected to compete for the starting role right away. But coaches like his athleticism and ability to make plays outside the system. So, he is a long-term project that could develop over time.
