Travis Kelce's Sharp Statement About US Men's Soccer Team As Alex Morgan Praises FIFA World Cup Performance

Fresh off a convincing 2-0 win over Australia, the US Men's National Team found support from two of its biggest advocates, Alex Morgan and Kelley O'Hara. While both applauded the result, Travis Kelce made a sharp statement about the Men's team.

“Well, I'll say it's about time the men started acting like the US women out here, started playing some damn football, some soccer. How about it?” said Travis Kelce at the New Heights podcast live event.

Kelce's comment appeared to reference the long-standing standard set by the U.S. women's national team, which has enjoyed far greater international success than the men's program.

His comments came after Alex Morgan and Kelley O'Hara were asked for their thoughts on the U.S. men's soccer team's opening-match victory.

“They just looked good. Like, the possession of the ball, the breaking lines, like they were taking on the back line, but also, like, passing when they needed to. And it just looked good. Like, it was good football,” said Morgan.

O'Hara doubled down on Morgan's comments, further praising the US men's team's phenomenal 90-minute performance against Australia.

“It was—I was genuinely, I watched the game, and I was like, 'Dang, that's some of the best football I've ever seen them play." And I was like, "They look confident. They look cohesive,” said O'Hara.

Taken together, the reactions from Morgan, O'Hara, and Kelce reflected a similar theme: the U.S. men's team looked more confident and effective than many fans had come to expect, prompting unusually strong praise.

Kelce's remark echoed the long-standing comparison between the two teams. While the U.S. men's team is still chasing its first World Cup title, the U.S. women's national team has won four World Cups (1991, 1999, 2015, 2019) and five Olympic gold medals, making it one of the most successful teams in soccer history.

The conversation later shifted from the team's performance to American soccer culture, with the Kelce brothers discussing the chants commonly heard at U.S. matches.

Jason and Travis Kelce Think U.S. Soccer Fans' Chant Can Be Better

The Kelce brothers stressed that having passionate chants is a cultural thing in soccer. That said, Jason expressed disappointment over American chants, arguing they lack the passion of supporters, on the New Heights podcast.

“I do remember distinctly thinking how much better [at] watching soccer Brazilians were than Americans. You go to the World Cup as an American, they’re like, ‘I believe that we can win! I believe that we can win!...’ That is the f******g most loser mentality chant I have ever heard in my entire life," Jason said as per PFSN.

Amused by what Jason had to say, Travis asked his brother for a Brazilian chant, to which Jason responded with an explanation.

“I don’t remember exactly,” Jason responded. “But they’re saying something like, ‘Chi chi chi! Le le le!...’ They’re better at it than we are,” Jason concluded.

For now, Morgan, O'Hara, and Kelce appear to agree on one thing: the U.S. men's team has shown encouraging signs after its win over Australia and will look to carry that momentum into the knockout stage.
