Top QB Prospect Threatens Shedeur Sanders Job in Clear Message for Todd Monken
If Sheuder Sanders was under the impression that his challenges would end with his rookie season, he was wrong. He has to prove he is better than a college star keen on joining the Cleveland Browns.
On Friday’s episode of Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams, Ty Simpson shared his thoughts on the Browns, Carnell Tate, and, most importantly, his admiration for Browns head coach Todd Monken.
Adams asked Simpson, “Do you like Mr. Monken?” To which he simply said: “Oh yeah, he’s the man.”
The Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback further said Monken was the right coach and gushed about his work at Georgia at the collegiate level.
“First off, he recruited me at Georgia. Had a great relationship with him, and you know, him coaching at Southern Miss, him and my dad got to know each other pretty well. So, I’ve known him for a long time,” Simpson said.
In 2013, Monken took over Southern Mississippi, which had recorded its worst-ever result with a 0-12 record. But he pushed the program into achieving a 9-5 record and won the Conference USA West Division title. It was during his three-year stint that Monken befriended Ty’s father, Jason Simpson, who is also a coach.
After moving from Southern Mississippi, Monken also fixed Georgia’s offense as the unit’s coordinator. Georgia won the national title in 2021 and 2022.
It is clear that Simpson respects Monken and wants to play under him. So when Adams proposed they would team up with the Browns together, Simpson replied, “It’s something you gotta ask coach Monken and Mr. Berry.”
“I think it’d be great. Coach Monken is gonna get it right. If I’m able to throw at Carnell Tate, we’d always be on the same page, hopefully take the league by storm.”
Simpson and Monken share a good QB-head coach rapport, which has been missing in the Browns for a while. He is one of the top prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft, and the Browns have two picks.
But What if He Too Joins the Cleveland Browns' Graveyard of QBs?
With 28 touchdowns for 3,567 yards and five interceptions only, Ty Simpson comes off as a reliable quarterback.
But the offensive unit has been a huge liability. Last season, the Browns used four different QBs. Deshaun Watson was already injured ahead of the season, as Cleveland started with the veteran Joe Flacco.
However, after he was traded to the Bengals, rookie QB Dillon Gabriel took his place. Unfortunately for Gabriel, he also suffered an injury in Week 11, and thus, Sanders getting his very first start.
Sure, the Browns' QB situation is complicated, and a magician like Monken would need time to fix the unit. Moreover, Simpson is against Sanders’ popularity and Watson, who is making a comeback.
But if he does end up in Cleveland, Sanders would become a backup QB again. What should the Browns do? Tell us in the comments!
