Top Draft Prospect Expected to Join Struggling NFL Franchise Claims Expert

The New York Jets have a quarterback problem, and they know it. The franchise has reportedly shifted its focus to a late-round prospect who has spent five years in college because its current roster lacks any suitable long-term solutions.
Luke Easterling of Athlon Sports predicts that Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck will be selected by the Jets with their 140th pick based on his most recent mock draft.
"A classic pocket passer, Beck has smooth, consistent mechanics and a quick release that allows him to deliver a catchable ball to every level of the field," Easterling noted.
Currently, Beck is projected to be a 4th or a 5th round pick in this year's NFL draft.
"His starting experience shines through in his ability to quickly process what opposing defenses are throwing at him, and he’s not afraid to take his layups underneath, allowing his playmakers to rack up yards after the catch." Easterling further wrote.
These assessments lean on a student's complete college performance record. Beck dedicated four years to Georgia before moving to Miami in 2025.
Beck completed his college football career with 11,725 passing yards and 88 touchdowns, averaging 8.4 yards per throw.

During his sole season with the Hurricanes, he passed for 3,813 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2025.
The New York team released Justin Fields after his first season with head coach Aaron Glenn because they needed a quarterback, and then signed Geno Smith, who most people considered a temporary solution.
The team has the number two overall pick in a scarce QB class, in which Fernando Mendoza stands out as the only clear franchise-level prospect, who is expected to be picked first by the Raiders.
Alternatively, the Jets could very well also consider other highly rated quarterback picks further up the order, such as Ty Simpson, but that would require a Round 1 pick.
The 2027 draft class presents better options than Beck, who brings affordable experience to New York as he maintains position stability until the team finds its permanent solution.
David Bailey Hype Is Real for Pick No. 2
The New York Jets possess one of the most valuable draft selections in the 2026 draft because Fernando Mendoza has been confirmed as the first overall selection, while Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey is expected to be chosen second.
ESPN's Peter Schrager and NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah both project Bailey to New York, and his performance record supports the belief.
The Texas Tech Raiders defender had the highest number of sacks (tied with Nadame Tucker) in 2025, with 14.5 sacks in total.
At the NFL Combine, David Bailey ran a blazing 4.50-second dash and backed it up with explosive jumps. His performance solidified him as a top-five pick in the 2026 draft conversation.
For the New York Jets, that kind of firepower could not come at a better time. Outside of Will McDonald IV, who led the Jets in 2025 with eight sacks, Jowon Briggs trailed at just four. Bailey's 14.5 trumps their combined total.
With various roster gaps to fill for the Jets, adding an elite pass-rusher would certainly be a top start, with Carson Beck also hopefully strengthening their shot-calling department.
