“Top-10 quarterback” - Deshaun Watson receives backing amid Browns’ early-season run

The Browns rallied past the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-24 on Thursday night, securing their third straight victory. Cleveland improved to 3-1 after Deshaun Watson helped lead the game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter.

The quarterback’s performance was discussed on 92.3 The Fan, with analyst Anthony Lima assessing his play this season. He highlighted the contrast between Watson’s first and second halves while pointing to the level he had shown this season:

“So he was at A-plus in the first half, and in the second half, like we've seen most quarterbacks this year outside of Brock Purdy. I think he's been the only guy that has been a complete quarterback from start to finish, and maybe Josh Allen.”

Lima acknowledged that Watson has not delivered the same level throughout every game. However, he argued that the Browns QB1 has still performed at a top-10 level among quarterbacks so far:

“I think Deshaun Watson has been a top-10 quarterback so far. Has it been consistent? No, but look around the league, show me the quarterback who's been consistent from start to finish.”

The Browns QB1’s numbers paint a mixed picture through four games

Deshaun Watson has completed 80 of 115 passes for 855 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also posted a 101.2 passer rating through four games.

Watson threw for 205 yards against Jacksonville before producing 238 yards and two touchdowns against Tampa Bay. He then recorded 144 yards and two scores against Carolina, followed by 268 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against Pittsburgh.

The numbers reflect the inconsistency the Browns' analyst acknowledged while also showing why he sees top-10 potential in Watson.
