Tony Rizzo Provides Major Update on John Harbaugh Talks After Browns Axe Kevin Stefanski
John Harbaugh’s unexpected availability in the head coach pool has sent ripples across teams looking for new leadership. The Browns are one of them and presented with a rare opportunity to secure one of the best coaches in the league.
In an episode of The Tony Rizzo Show, Rizzo stated that no one should rule out the possibility of Harbaugh interviewing with the Browns.
“I don’t know. Never say never. They already called, I know that for a fact. I don’t know if he’d come for a division rivalry. Maybe that’s the better question: would Stefanski go coach the Ravens?” he asked.
According to another insider, the Browns have been considering Harbaugh for a while now. On the Orange and Brown Podcast, Mary Kay Cabot stated that the franchise wants him.
“I had heard some time ago that the Browns, sort of on their short list of ‘someday what-ifs,’ really like him a lot, and what’s not to like? He’s won 185 games. He’s won a Super Bowl. He’s won something like whatever, six AFC North titles. And he’s got the Browns number, that’s for sure,” she shared.
“I think he’d be just an excellent candidate. He’d be a great head coach here. I think he’d be a tremendous, tremendous fit. He’s an Ohio native himself. He’s from Toledo.” Cabot said.
Harbaugh has won the Ravens the 2013 Super Bowl and is in his career’s 18th season with the Ravens. He won the 2019 Coach of the Year award and is their longest-running coach after Mike Tomlin.
The Ravens have appeared in four AFC playoffs. With him as their coach, they have won at least one game in nine out of 12 postseason matchups.
Another Candidate from the Ravens
NFL insider Ian Rapaport broke the news that the Browns are looking to interview Todd Monken, the Ravens’ offensive coordinator.
Rapaport shared that Haslam’s team has sent him an interview request. If accepted, he would return to the Browns after his position as the offensive coordinator in 2019.
While Monken’s offensive background is much-needed to fix the Browns’ weakest unit, Harbaugh is defense-minded and can take Myles Garrett’s unit to newer, higher levels. Who will be the Browns' choice?
