Tom Brady Sends Strong Message to Matthew Stafford Amidst Retirement Talks

From one star quarterback to another, Tom Brady has a request for Matthew Stafford.

While interviewing Stafford on Fox, the seven-time Super Bowl champion let Stafford know what he thought about the retirement rumors.

“You’re only 37, you got at least another 8 years to play, so I can’t wait to watch all of them,” Brady said.

Well, Tom Brady knows a thing or two about longevity. At 45 years, Brady hung up his boots following a 31-14 loss against the Cowboys in the 2022 season. More importantly, there's another factor that showed Stafford's longevity.

He led the league in both touchdowns (46) and passing yards (4707) in the regular season. Stafford threw only 8 interceptions and was sacked just 23 times. The 37-year-old was in even better form in the postseason. In just 3 games, he threw for 936 passing yards and scored 6 touchdowns. After last season's troubling numbers (3,762 passing yards and 20 touchdowns), this resurgence was a massive boost.

But what does Stafford have to say about a return? During an appearance on the Let's Go podcast, Stafford revealed his thoughts on the decision.

"I know I had a ton of fun playing football this season and so much fun playing for the Rams. So, when I'm ready to figure that out, I'll be ready to figure that out. That moment isn't right now...I have so much more time, I feel like, to reflect on the people and the season we just had. I want to appreciate that and give it the time that it deserves before I start thinking personally about what's next for me and my family."

However, one NFL insider believes he knows Stafford's decision.

Matthew Stafford Can Come Back

According to a report from Ian Rapoport, the QB still has gas left in the tank.

"He is going to be 38 years old next month… my understanding, though, is Stafford has told people close to him that he does believe he has some good football left, telling them no matter what, he wants to be back next year."

If this year proved anything, it's that age doesn't matter when it comes to Stafford's performance. He's already a front-runner for league MVP. And while the Super Bowl dream failed, could we see him take another shot at the title next year?
