Tom Brady Likely to Step Away from Raiders Duties: Reports

When Tom Brady played flag football against Team USA a week ago, he reminded everyone what a great player he is. But Brady hasn't fared that well off the field as a franchise owner, and could even step away soon.
In the latest edition of his newsletter, 199, the 48-year-old weighed in on work-life balance, which fueled reports that he might give up his minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders.
“This isn’t a woe-is-me story. I loved it. I asked for this. I said “yes” to all of these commitments. But stretches like this have a cost,” Brady wrote. “I sit here reflecting on what was an epic ten-day, sprint-marathon of a business trip, I have to be honest with myself about what my body, my brain, and my heart are asking of me right now.”
Mark Davis, franchise owner, sold 5 percent stakes to Brady in October 2024. Davis expected the six-time Super Bowl champion to improve the franchise as a strategic advisor.
“Bringing in Tom Brady was bringing in somebody on the football that I had been lacking having here in the organization,” Davis told the media in a January 2025 interaction.
The Raiders, however, ended the last two seasons with a 4-13 record in 2024 and a 3-14 record in 2025.

The franchise lost more since Brady’s onboarding. In 2023 itself, the team had won eight, outnumbering the last two years.
This naturally left the spectators to wonder what his impact on the franchise is. Recently at the Flag Football event, Brady was asked about his role and the process at Las Vegas.
Tom Brady Talks About His Role At the Raiders
Amid questions about whether Brady was upholding his side of the deal, he recently spoke about how he views things.
In a media session at the Fanatics Flag Football Classic, a reporter asked Brady about the extent of his involvement with the Raiders. Brady did not answer the question as a partial team owner at all.
“Getting to work with Mark Davis in the role that I’m at, and to see kind of a different team shape,” Brady said. “The way that things are done, and how we’re evolving and growing, and, you know, we certainly have a long ways to go.”
Brady only spoke as an individual, keeping in mind, his history in the NFL.
“Like I said, I love football. I love sports. You know, I was very fortunate in my career to be around amazing people and mentors like Robert Kraft.”
He was also absent from this year’s NFL meeting held in Arizona, and new head coach Klint Kubaik said the two of them “text almost every day.”
A report by Pro Football Talk questioned how a “high-level team employee” like Brady can remain absent from such an important event.
If Brady steps away, the Raiders will need to act quickly to find a replacement. The news however would be a big blow to 2026 pick no.1 prospect Fernando Mendoza, who's been excited to join Brady's team.
