Todd Monken's Brightest Quality Could Unlock Browns' Potential
As the Cleveland Browns are gaining momentum for post-season football, a former NFL offensive lineman has reassured fans that their offense is in safe hands.
Brian Baldinger, now an NFL analyst, spoke on 92.3 The Fan and highlighted that head coach Todd Monken has extensive offensive knowledge from his long career.
“[Todd Monken] has been in college, he’s been a coordinator. He's gone back and forth,” Baldinger said on The Ken Carmen Show With Anthony Lima on May 5.
Monken, 60, took over as the head coach at an interesting time after a 3-14 finish in 2024 and 5-13 in 2025. That being said, the former offensive coordinator brought an impressive resume.
Over the years, his adaptability has been visible across various roles.
He rebuilt Southern Mississippi from a 0-12 into a 9-5 2015 Conference USA West Division champion. In 2022, in Georgia, his offense led with 7,517 yards.
Things haven’t been great with the Browns. The franchise went from playoff berths to a post-season drought under former HC Kevin Stefanski.
While Stefanski was also offensive-minded, the Browns were ranked 31st in scoring offense last season (279 points).
Meanwhile, with Monken as their offensive coordinator, the Baltimore Ravens finished 12-5 and 8-9 in the AFC North in the last two years.
Under Todd Monken, the Baltimore Ravens offense did not just improve, it took over. A consistent top-five unit in scoring and yards, built on a ground game that lived at No. 1 or 2 every season, while red zone efficiency turned elite, leading the league at 67.9 percent touchdowns.
At the center of it all, Lamar Jackson thrived, grabbing his second MVP in 2023 and hitting career highs through the air in 2024.
On the same show, Baldinger addressed Monken’s quality as well.
Todd Monken Could Adjust Things To Fix The Cleveland Browns’ Quarterback Problem
While talking to the hosts on 92.3 The Fan, Brian Baldinger continued to praise Todd Monken and stated that the quarterback is important in bringing out the most from his strategies.
“That's a guy who is going to adjust his program and offense to the talent that's around him and what they do best. It might depend on who's the quarterback,” he told Carmen. “That's the way it should be. You should be able to be flexible. They should not be married to a particular system.”
At present, the Browns haven’t decided on who their starting QB for this season will be. Monken has four options in front of him- Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, 30-year-old Deshaun Watson, and the 2026 draft pick, Taylen Green.
Picking the best starter is a big priority for the franchise if they don’t want to repeat last season’s offensive rankings.
Do you think Monken will succeed with the Browns? Tell us in the comments.
