Todd Monken Sends Strong Message Ahead of 2026 NFL Season

The Cleveland Browns have undergone a lot of changes during the offseason to build a competitive team. GM Andrew Berry kicked off on making those changes by hiring the Browns’ new head coach, Todd Monken, in January this year.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Browns and Monken have a contract for five years. During an appearance on 92.3 The Fan's podcats, Monken claims he's all-in on making them a winning team.

“As much as I love winning, I hate losing. I despise c***** football,” Monken said. “You look dumb as a coach when you put bad football on the field. That's the starting point, give yourself a chance.”

The Browns previously had Kevin Stefanski as their head coach for six seasons. Monken voiced his respect for Stefanski calling him a “fantastic football coach” for whom he has a lot of respect.

With the rookie minicamp and the mandatory veteran camp just around the corner, Monken emphasized on building a team that isn’t committing penalties and playing unorganized football.

The Cleveland Browns’ offense committed 64 penalties and lost 450+ yards in 2025. In Week 5’s 21-17 loss against the Minnesota Vikings, the Browns committed the maximum penalties (6) costing 45 yards.

Monken is determined to get the team to play quality football this year. He wants the Browns’ players to prove their mettle on the field and justify the franchise’s investment in them.

Todd Monken’s NFL Career At A Glance

Todd Monken has had a long on-and-off career in the NFL. He was a wide receivers coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2007-2010) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016-2018). He also had a short stint as the Offensive Coordinator (OC) of the Browns in 2019.

Monken’s impact was immediately noticed when he made a comeback as the OC of the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. In his first year, QB Lamar Jackson bagged his second MVP. In his second year, the Ravens had the best ranked offense in the franchise’s history.

“When Jimmy and Dee sign a check with my name on it, they expect a kick a** football team. My job is to prove them right every day,” said Monken on the 92.3 The Fan show.

Monken successfully established himself as the league’s finest offensive-minded coach. His determination and seriousness regarding his job are setting the tone early for the 2026 season.

GM Andrew Berry is confident that Monken’s 'direct, demanding and detail-oriented leadership' will build a sustainable and successful team for the future.
