Todd Monken Reportedly Forcing Players Out of Drills for Mistakes, Claims Insider

After a disappionting 5-12 record last season, the Cleveland Browns had fired their head coach, Kevin Stefanski. Instead, the Browns had hired their former OC, Todd Monken, as the head coach (HC) for the first time in his NFL career.

During her appearance on the 'Orange and Brown Talk' podcast, Browns insider Ashley Bastock pointed out that the Browns are learning quickly that their HC Monken means business and holds everyone accountable.

“Todd Monken making guys come out of a drill when they committed a penalty, that sort of stuff," Bastock said. "It felt like we didn’t see a lot in those Kevin Stefanski practices, like, you’d get reset and you’d go again.”

Reports suggest that his coaching style is more demanding and detail-oriented. Therefore, it is something the Browns could benefit from a roster consisting of young talent and veterans.

Monken’s straightforward behavior is evident during his interactions with the media and during the Browns’ OTAs.

The Browns went in a different direction from their former head coach, Kevin Stefanski, after the 2025 season. Despite winning two NFL Coach of the Year awards during his tenure, the team won only eight games in his two seasons.

According to Mike Battaglino of the Browns Nation, Monken isn’t afraid of voicing his disappointment when he does not like what he sees in practices or in the player's personality.

It was evident with his response to Myles Garrett’s absence from the OTAs and the embarrassing interceptions thrown by the Browns' quarterbacks during 7-on-7 skills.

Thereafter, it could be the primary reason driving him to apply his own standards during the Browns’ practice sessions and in the upcoming season.

With all the efforts being put in by Monken, the Browns hope to have a winning season. If they fail to do so, the franchise will be held accountable towards Monken and vice versa.

Browns Insider Claims Monken Holds the Browns Accountable

One of the primary reasons for the Browns to bring in Todd Monken was his coaching reputation. The Browns struggled under Stefanski and needed someone with extensive knowledge of offensive schemes.

NFL insider Tony Grossi called Monken’s plans to hold the Browns accountable a “key organization quality.” He also noted that the coach is capable of pulling players off the field quickly.

“When Denzel Ward said, ‘We need someone to hold this offense accountable.’" Grossi said. "I think that was a key organzation quality they were looking for in their next coach. Accountability, and Monken’s going to give it to them.”

It’s common for a new head coach to set high standards early on for their team. However, that approach will only be considered successful when it brings the team more wins.

Hopefully, the Browns will adapt to Monken’s ways before the training camp in July and resort to a winning record in the upcoming season.
