Todd Monken Makes Thoughts Clear On Browns' Latest QB Taylen Green

One of the most fascinating picks of this year’s draft, quarterback Taylen Green is set to keep head coach Todd Monken up ideating new plays.

In a wrap-up press conference on Saturday, Monken revealed that nothing might be set in place at present, but he is drawing up ways to utilize Green’s talents.

“We’ll certainly put him in a position if we think that can help us win a game,” he said of the QB. “Because it certainly adds some value with his ability to throw it. When you have a player with those kinds of traits, when can you utilize those? Having an athletic quarterback can be critical to having success.”

Green was a sixth-round pick at No. 182 in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Arkansas QB is one of the most athletic players to have entered the pro league in quite some time.

Firstly, as per data released by NFL Combine trackers, he shattered all  NFL Combine records a QB could. He boasted a 4.36-second 40-yard dash, the fastest anyone has run since 2003. His 43.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot-2 broad jump have surpassed the previous record set by Anthony Richardson in 2023.

Secondly, Monken can fall back on the QB in case the Browns’ QB depth chart is in upheaval.

The 23-year-old brings five years of experience with him. His college career is split across two programs- the Boise State Broncos and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Browns undoubtedly hit a jackpot by picking him. But they have to figure out when and where to place him on their QB roster.

Where Does Taylen Green Fit Into The Browns' QB Equation?

Green is entering the NFL with 59 passing TDs, 9,662 passing yards under his name, alongside 35 rushing TDs for 2,403 rushing yards.

And according to Zach Bachar from Bleacher Report, General Manager Andrew Berry has chosen to focus on Green’s “rare physical gifts, size, speed, big arm.”

He believes that Green may, however, need a little polishing.

"He's gonna need some polish with his game, but he has the work ethic, and he has the acumen to do so."

But, how will the other QBs, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson, vying for the starting position, take in the new addition? The Browns, spearheaded by Monken, got done with their first OTA program just before the draft.

And all three QBs showed up to the voluntary camp, officiating the race for the QB 1 position. The Browns are now stocked up with four QBs, leaving Monken in charge of finding the best use of each in the upcoming season.

Will the promising Green help in elevating the Browns from their previous 5-12 record? What are your thoughts?
