Todd Monken Is Proving to Be Better Than Kevin Stefanski at Browns OTA, Per Insider Mary Kay Cabot

The Cleveland Browns are coming off an 8-26 record over the last two seasons. That's why the Browns brought in a new Head Coach to change things. Since taking over for Kevin Stefanski, Todd Monken is already making a strong impression during OTAs.

According to insider Mary Kay Cabot, his intense methods are proving to be exactly what this team needs. The most noticeable change Monken has brought is to the practice structure itself.

"He(Monken) is running more 11-on-11s. Kevin ran it more of a passing camp in OTAs, so there's many more 11-on-11s," Mary Kay Cabot stated on the Sports4CLE show.

Cabot spoke about the 11 v 11 structure being good, considering the new structure of the team, highlighting that he was already proving to be better than the former HC with his new routines.

The Browns have added five new offensive linemen to their roster. One of them is the 9th overall pick of the 2026 draft, Spencer Fano.

Apart from this, they have added two top 40 draft pick rookies to the WR room.

"You have to get those guys working together, and you have to get those guys working with the quarterback, so I think that's really, really good for them all," Cabot noted.

Beyond just the drills, Monken is altering the tempo of standard practice. He frequently utilizes a stop-and-start method to correct mistakes in real time. The offense will run at full speed and then shift down to a half-speed walkthrough.

According to NFL Analysis’ Joe Kieman, the Cleveland Browns are approaching OTAs far differently than a standard offseason tune-up.

With an open quarterback battle, a rebuilt offensive line, and rookie receivers still learning a new system, Cleveland is trying to install an offensive identity while evaluating nearly half the unit at the same time.

It is safe to say that Monken's personality differs a lot from Stefanski's, and this has not gone unnoticed by Mary Cabot.

A Change in Culture Under Todd Monken

The starkest contrast between Monken and Stefanski is undeniably their coaching personalities.

Monken, who previously worked as the Offensive Coordinator at the Baltimore Ravens for 3 years, is incredibly vocal and demands perfection right out of the gate.

"Well, Todd's a yeller, you know. He'll scream if he doesn't like something," Mary Kay Cabot explained. "He'll, you know, he'll pull aside a coach and get his point across."

This hard-on-the-players, zero-tolerance approach was obvious when Monken publicly called out his unit for throwing interceptions during a 7-on-7 drill.

He labeled the mistakes as "embarrassing" because there was no pass rush. Cabot highlighted his lack of patience, noting he won't tolerate "bad football" or "sloppy football."

For a team that's disappointed in the AFC North lately, this cultural change might exactly be what they need.

"Nevertheless, it should get them from Point A to Point B," Cabot concluded.

Whether Todd Monken’s demanding style succeeds or not, one thing already feels clear: the Cleveland Browns are no longer operating with the same energy that defined the last two disappointing seasons.
