Todd Monken Expresses Honest Thoughts Over Rookie WRs After First Impact

The true test of the Cleveland Browns’ wide receivers’ capabilities won’t come up until the regular season begins. So far, their performances at the rookie minicamp have impressed head coach Todd Monken.

Browns' analyst Fred Greetham asked Monken for his opinion on his rookie WRs during the rookie minicamp on May 8. Monken discussed how he 'pleased' he was with KC Conception and Denzel Boston's oerformances.

“I was awfully pleased with them today and how they functioned, got lined up," Monken said. "You can see their skill set; you certainly could today.”

Greetham is also a senior writer for the Orange and Brown Report. He revealed that Monken was being cautious with how much pressure the WRs have to deal with in multiple roles.

“I think you're better off, at most, putting them in two spots," Monken said. "If you can keep them in one spot, that helps their development, but…you want them to be able to play fast and be able to function without having to think.”

“That's been difficult wherever I've been when you've got a rookie. Happened...at the place I was before, and you just got to be careful of putting too much on their plate,” Monken added.

Monken’s concern isn’t stemming from his past experiences.

Concepcion is coming off an arthroscopic surgery on his knee that took place in March. However, the 24th overall pick of this year’s draft said he’s ready to take on the season.

“I feel good,” Concepcion said after the minicamp practice. “First day out here, learning, being around guys. It feels great. I feel 100 percent. I'm ready to play, honestly.”

Concepcion has huge expectations to perform for the Browns. They were ranked 29th by ESPN for their WR room performance in 2025.

Their WR1 Jerry Jeudy led with just 50 receptions, two touchdowns and 602 yards.

Apart from Concepcion, the franchise also picked Denzel Boston, who had a great performance in the Berea minicamp. Boston also revealed where his strengths lie after the practice.

Denzel Boston Reveals What He’s Learned

In his report, Fred Greetham wrote that Denzel Boston from Washington was 'displaying his range and pass catching ability at minicamp.'

When asked about his what he 'brings' to the Cleveland Browns, Boston stated that he has picked up a thing or two since his NFL Combine.

“You know, I think I put a lot of emphasis on that during the time of training, like even coming into the combine and all that stuff,” Boston said. “It was definitely just learning how to sink my hips better and be able to be more explosive on my rounds.”

Boston also discussed how he looks forward to pair up with Concepcion in the upcoming season.

"I think that we're going to bring a good mix of explosiveness and having explosive plays after explosive plays," Boston stated. "Both of us have generated tons of touchdowns throughout our college careers. So, I think those are the two things for sure you can look forward to."

The Browns need their WRs to perform well this season, and it appears that they are headed in the right direction. What are your thoughts? Tell us in the comments!
