Shedeur Sanders' future with the Cleveland Browns has become a major talking point. Many expected the sophomore quarterback to start this season, but Todd Monken chose Deshaun Watson instead.

The decision has frustrated Browns fans, who have made their feelings clear. It may have also been difficult for Sanders, who now finds himself waiting for an opportunity.

However, Monken appears to have plenty of faith in the young quarterback. Speaking on The Ken Carman Show on 92.3 The Fan, the Browns coach explained how impressed he has been with Sanders' development.

"Well, first off, I've said this so often, I've been super impressed with his improvement from the moment I got here till having lunch with him yesterday in the cafeteria."

Monken praised Sanders' understanding of the offense and his willingness to ask questions. He also highlighted improvements in getting rid of the ball and working through his progressions.

"So I think he's on the right track and he does understand we're playing the long game here."

The problem is that the Browns have already chosen their starter. That means Watson needs the majority of practice reps, leaving Sanders with limited opportunities outside the scout team.

It's clear that Monken has a plan for Sanders. Unfortunately, that plan simply isn't implementable right now. As Monken said, Cleveland is playing the long game.

Shedeur Sanders could get his chance as early as Week 4

Watson's QB1 status isn't necessarily permanent. The Browns are effectively running an experiment with their veteran quarterback, and it could reach a conclusion by Week 4.

If Watson fails to live up to expectations, Monken and the coaching staff could turn to Shedeur Sanders. The second-year quarterback would then finally get the opportunity Browns fans have been demanding.

However, there is one major question. If Cleveland struggles early, will it already be too late to salvage the season?
