Todd Monken Calls For Two Steelers Stars to Enter Retirement Ahead of Week 4 Clash
The Cleveland Browns have a major challenge ahead of them in Week 4. They face the Pittsburgh Steelers in a divisional clash, with both teams entering Thursday night at 2-1. Todd Monken has been preparing his team for another physical AFC North battle.
Two of his biggest concerns sit on the other side of the line. T.J. Watt and Cameron Heyward have been nightmares for opposing offenses for years, and Watt already has 3.5 sacks this season. So, when Monken was asked about facing Watt, he had some interesting words for the Steelers veteran.
“I think it's about time that he retires...and Heyward and all those guys. Credit to those guys. How long they've done it...at the level they've done it. It's been tough to go against.”
Monken appeared to genuinely be calling for Watt and Heyward to retire. However, he immediately followed that comment by praising how long they have maintained an elite level. Perhaps it was a dig at two longtime divisional rivals, or perhaps Monken simply wanted to acknowledge how difficult they have been to face.
Either way, Cleveland knows exactly what awaits them. Watt has 17.5 sacks in 15 career games against the Browns, while Heyward remains one of Pittsburgh’s most experienced defensive leaders.
Todd Monken Has More Than Watt and Heyward to Worry About
The Steelers have threats throughout their defense, meaning Cleveland cannot simply focus on two players. Pittsburgh’s pass rush has several dangerous pieces capable of creating problems for the Browns’ offensive line.
That makes protection particularly important for Cleveland. Monken will need his offense to stay disciplined, avoid negative plays and capitalize when Pittsburgh gives them opportunities.
Monken may want Watt and Heyward to retire, but both veterans remain major problems for Cleveland. The Browns will have to find answers quickly when these divisional rivals meet.
