Todd Monken Aims to Reunite with College Staff in Hopes of Unlocking Shedeur Sanders' Potential

Todd Monken has started to make decisions as the Browns' head coach and Shedeur Sanders is on his list.

The Browns HC was the Offensive Coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in 2016-2018. He is bringing in a talent from that time of the Bucs to the Browns, as per ESPN senior NFL reporter, Jeremy Fowler. "

"Browns are hiring veteran college and NFL coach Mike Bajakian as quarterbacks coach, per sources.Bajakian, last Utah’s OC, reunites with Todd Monken from their days on Tampa Bay’s staff together (2016-18)."

With Monken as the HC and Bajakian as the quarterbacks coach, the then Bucs QB, Jameis Winston, set then-franchise records with 4,090 passing yards and 28 touchdown passes. From 2016-2018, he had a passer rating of 89.2 with 10,586 yards and 66 touchdowns.

He also recorded 43 interceptions in 40 games, and the opponents sacked him 95 times. Other than the Bucs, Bajakian has worked with the Chicago Bears as their offensive quality control coach from 2004 to 2006.

The Bears went 29-19 in the regular season over those three years (2004–2006), with two playoff appearances and a Super Bowl appearance. Other than this, he has also been the offensive coordinator for Central Michigan, Cincinnati, and Tennessee in CFB.

Shedeur Sanders himself has recorded 1,400 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 8 games. It will be interesting to see how things work out between them. And Mike Bajakian is not the only change that Todd Monken is making in the Browns.

While reports suggest the Browns' head coach has no intentions of touching the defensive side of the Browns coaching staff, he sure is bringing in offensive help. Other than Bajakian, he has hired:

  • Jeff Blasko – Tight Ends Coach
  • George Warhop – Offensive Line Coach
  • Ian Kolste – Offensive Quality Control
  • Daniel Stern – Analytics / Game Management

While all of these are important, fans might be looking very keenly at George Warhop because of how bad the Browns' OL played in the 2025 season. What do you think?
