3x Pro-Bowl Champion makes his thoughts clear on Shedeur Sanders as a starter
The 3-time Pro Bowl winner Je'Rod Cherry fully backed Sanders after observing him in his first seven starts.
“I am looking at Shedeur Sanders, and I’m saying he gives you a great chance.”
Cherry praised the 23-year-old for settling in fast after coming in mid-season and defeating the Steelers.
“One came into the season late, found a way to win a game against a team no one thought you had a chance of winning against.”
Cherry further added that if Sanders manages to improve his decision-making, the Browns would take a huge step forward.
“Now, we’ve also seen some things where we’re like, ‘dawg, if you could just cut out the ill-advised decision making, then we’d be better forward.’”
Shedeur Sanders 2025 season stats:
Sanders has appeared in seven games this season, completing 109 of 190 passes for 1,289 yards. He holds a 57.4 completion percentage, averages 6.8 yards per attempt, and has thrown 7 touchdowns against 10 interceptions.
Week 17 vs. Steelers performance:
Against Pittsburgh, Sanders recorded 186 passing yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, helping Cleveland secure a surprise victory over the Steelers despite entering the matchup as heavy underdogs.

With now four wins, it appears that the Browns would need to trade up in the draft in April to pick one of the two likely top quarterbacks, Fernando Mendoza or Dante Moore, which would mean trading away several key draft picks.
Cleveland has lingering questions at its offensive line and isn’t getting much production from its wide receiving corps, making it hard to trade away future resources when so many starting spots are up in the air.
However, as a rookie, Shedeur Sanders did not get the experience of the entire offseason and training camp practice sessions with the regulars, as he joined the team mid-season.
This will give the coaching staff a fair evaluation of this player. In case Sanders turns out not to be the solution, there will be a developed system for a new quarterback entering the 2027 draft.
