Sports journalist and commentator Skip Bayless questioned the Cleveland Browns’ commitment to Deshaun Watson.

Bayless made the comments on the Gridiron podcast, hosted by Kinsey Wolanski, alongside former NFL cornerback Aqib Talib. He argued that Cleveland’s Week 1 performance showed where the locker room didn't want to play with Watson as their QB1.

The Browns lost 34-10 to the Jacksonville Jaguars, with Watson starting under center:

“That team clearly showed you that that locker room wants Shedeur Sanders to be the quarterback, because they just came out lifeless yesterday. They came out flat. They came out with no spirit, no spark, no urgency, no desire.”

Bayless then suggested the Browns’ players effectively quit on Watson during the game and showed that they wanted Shedeur Sanders in his place.

“They were basically quitting on Deshaun in real time. You could just see it right before your very eyes.”

Watson is currently Cleveland’s QB1, but Bayless believes the team’s performance pointed toward the locker room wanting Sanders as their quarterback instead.

Skip Bayless also directed his criticism toward Browns head coach Todd Monken and his handling of the issue after the loss in their opener.

“He is so full of himself after games. But he's like, 'I'm not gonna fire myself. Don't look at me, don't blame me. I had nothing to do with that, and he's [Deshaun Watson] just 1 of 53,'” Bayless bemoaned.

Bayless also argued that Monken could not separate himself from the team's performance. He also drove home the fact that the quarterback holds the most influential position in football.
