The Browns Might Have Solved Their Kicker in 2025, Despite QB Troubles

The Cleveland Browns entered 2025 looking for answers and found one in the most unexpected place. While quarterback uncertainty posed an uncertain situation, the kicking position has brought in some well-deserved stability.

Andre Szmyt brought in the kind of consistency that the Browns lacked elsewhere in 2025. Szmyt concluded the regular season by making 22 out of 25 field goals, an 88% success rate, along with 23 out of 24 extra points, giving Cleveland steady scoring.

A big factor in this regard was his reliability, which was evident from his game with the Packers. His 55-yard game-winning field goal against the Packers established that he had what it took to perform under pressure and deliver even when the offense stalled late in close games.

That dependability carried over into late December. Week 17 against Pittsburgh saw Szmyt score, helping secure a 13–6 win. In a game that was more of a defensive struggle, his accuracy was just what Cleveland required.

How Stability at Kicker Stood Out All Season

Szmyt earned his role before the regular season began. His preseason performance in August convinced the Browns to move on from veteran Dustin Hopkins.

While Szmyt settled into the job, the quarterback position was also in flux. Deshaun Watson missed the whole season of 2025 while recovering from a second Achilles tear incurred the year before. This had forced Cleveland into constant adjustments.

Turning to the rookies for solution, Shedeur Sanders became the primary starter and threw for 1,289 yards, while Dillon Gabriel also saw significant action. All this, while the Browns assessed what the future held for the quarterback position during a tough stretch of games.

Joe Flacco made a brief comeback, but that did not make a dent when it came to long-term impact. Cleveland prioritized development rather than short-term fixes, allowing young quarterbacks to gain experience despite the inconsistent offensive production.

This also became the defining moment of the season. The offense struggled to maintain drives, yet field goal opportunities were rarely wasted. And Szmyt’s presence only ensured that even stalled possessions still produced points.

Cleveland still faces major questions moving forward, but while we keep an eye on the developments, what do you think of the situation?
