“That’d Be Cheating”: Jason Kelce Demands NFL Commissioner To Block Aaron Donald’s Potential Return

Retirement may not be the final chapter for Aaron Donald after all. Rumors of a potential return are gaining traction following comments from Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay and a new report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The possibility has already sparked reactions across the league, including from Jason Kelce.

On the June 5 episode of the New Heights podcast with his brother Travis Kelce, Jason, the former Philadelphia Eagles center, questioned whether it should even be allowed.

"What if AD comes out of retirement?" Jason asked. "What if it's Myles Garrett and AD on the same side on the same team on the same field? That'd be cheating. Roger (Goodell) would have to step in."

The combination of Donald with Garrett will be unstoppable, feels Kelce. On one hand, you have Donald considered one of the greatest defensive tackles of all time who led the Rams to a Super Bowl victory in the 2021 season. His career saw him notch up 340 solo tackles and 111 sacks.

Add to that Garrett's aggressive style of play. The defensive end had a season record of 23 sacks last season, while he added 293 solo tackles and 125.5 sacks to his name after nine seasons. That would be a lethal combo operating on the Rams' defense.

Kelce believes things will become so one-sided that even the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will have to step in.

“If I was still playing O-line in the league, I would start a petition," Jason quipped. "No. This isn’t allowed. What are we doing here?”

The 3x NFL Defensive Player of the Year announced his retirement on March 15, 2024, after 10 seasons.

As reported by NFL Insider Schultz on June 2, he texted Donald about coming out of retirement and playing with Garrett in Los Angeles. He said he is "sure flirting with the idea."

Meanwhile, Garrett shared his reaction about teaming up with Donald.

Myles Garrett Excited To Play Alongside The Rams Legend

Donald is 35 years old, and the fact that the Rams could convince him to come out of retirement makes Garrett excited.

"We haven’t talked yet but definitely expect to talk soon," the defensive end said. "I don’t know what his plans are, and I won’t pretend to know, but a lot of people are excited and thrilled about the possibility of him coming back."

Not just Garrett. The sentiment is shared by McVay as well, who believes Donald would be a great addition to have.

"Aaron is a guy that I stay really close in touch with, and I know the respect that he has for Myles," he said during Garrett's introductory news conference.

There is little question about Donald's talent, but he would need to be in exceptional physical condition to perform as a high-level pass rusher for the Rams in 2026.
