“That Did Hurt Me”: Browns LB Quincy Williams Gets Candid About 100-Tackle Streak
Quincy Williams is now a Cleveland Brown player. In his first press conference, he opened up about the one thing that still bothers him: the end of his impressive 100-tackle streak.
“That is a question that I think about all the time, but no one has (ever, ever) asked me. That did hurt me during the process because when they told me I was going to have to sit out for five games, I was like ‘No, I feel good.’”
The Browns signed Williams, an All-Pro player, with a two-year, $17 million contract after Devin Bush exited. The 29-year-old former Jet was a model of consistency, even on a struggling team.
After spending two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Williams joined the Jets in 2021. And in that season, he made 110 tackles in the 16 games he appeared in. He also recorded two sacks, three forced fumbles, and defended five passes.
In the following seasons, Williams made 106, 139, and 116 tackles, with the 2023 season being his career best. Out of 139, he made 95 solo tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception, and defended 10 passes.
But in the 2025 season, he missed out on the streak and made 83 tackles only due to a shoulder injury. That shoulder injury cost him four games, and even though he tried to play with a fractured hand, it wasn't enough.
Nevertheless, his move to the Browns is the start of a new chapter.
And the Browns Have Hit Gold by Signing Williams
Because now he will partner up with their breakout star and NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Carson Schwesinger. The 23-year-old led the team with a whopping 146 tackles and powered the elite defensive unit.
While the offense is the sole reason for the Browns’ poor records, the defensive unit is helmed by NFL record-holder Myles Garrett. In 2025, the unit was graded 1st overall, above the Seattle Seahawks, the defensive powerhouse and reigning Super Bowl Champions.
The franchise battled a major setback in the face of unit coordinator Jim Schwartz’s resignation, one of the most important figures in the management. His absence creates a significant hole, and if the defense falters, the Browns could be in serious trouble.
Moreover, there is always a possibility of Garrett’s trade. That is why Williams, a veteran, becomes even more important alongside Schwesinger. His experience and physicality are expected to make an immediate impact on the Browns' defense.
So, are you excited to see Williams in action?
