Surprising NBA Playoffs Game Breaks Super Bowl LX Record

May 18 marked a special day in sports history, bringing up the comparison between the NFL and the NBA. The San Antonio Spurs vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder Western Conference Finals Game 1, the NBA playoffs pulled more viewers than Super Bowl LX on the Real App.

"Spurs vs Thunder Game 1 had 15.5k more live viewers than Super Bowl LX," confirmed Real App on X.

It garnered the most live viewers in the history of the Real App, with 654.7k live viewers. For comparison, the Seattle Seahawks vs. the New England Patriots Super Bowl LX game pulled in 639.2k live viewers.

However, the viewership makes complete sense considering the on-court action. The game in itself went into double overtime. Before it was finally settled with the Spurs beating the Thunder 122-115 on the road.

Fans witnessed pure intensity for 58 minutes, keeping a massive audience online completely locked in until the final buzzer.

Coming into the series, Oklahoma was being lauded as the best defensive team in the league. However, they simply stood no chance on the night against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.

After watching Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lift the MVP award before the game, Wemby completely took over the court and dominated.

He dominated with 41 points, 24 rebounds, and three blocks across 49 minutes of play. His final line was 14 for 25 from the field.

On the other side, Oklahoma City's best performer that night actually wasn't their new MVP. Alex Caruso came off the bench to drop 31 points, knocking down eight 3-pointers on 11 for 19 shooting.

Meanwhile, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander struggled big-time, shooting just 7 for 23 from the floor.

The Driving Forces Behind a Historic Viewership Record

This was no regular-season game. Instead, it was a Western Conference Finals. A conference title match automatically generates a much larger spotlight. The extremely high stakes naturally draw in casual and hardcore fans alike.

Furthermore, as the game kept on intensifying, more people started tuning in to catch the action on digital platforms like the Real App.

On top of this, the Real platform has been witnessing growth since its release. Back in 2024, the Buffalo Bills vs Detroit Lions game drew 220.8k views.

And this trend has definitely carried on over since February, when the Super Bowl LX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots took place.

Real's official X handle even replied to a fan who reasoned that people watch football on TV, not play-by-play on an App.

"The next Super Bowl will have far more viewers than any other game on Real. This just shows our growth since Feb", they replied.

Games like an MVP facing a rising superstar in double overtime trigger massive engagement across social sports apps. Real-time updates and community chat become essential, and Real App fills that gap.
