Stephen A. Smith Labels Deion Sanders Undeserving of Browns HC Role

The Browns have hired former Ravens Offensive Coach Todd Monken. Yet, could Deion Sanders have been a good fit for the role? Stephen A. Smith doesn't think so.
The NFL analyst spoke about the NFL legend-turned-University of Colorado Boulder's football coach, when mostly wishful fan sentiment connected him as a potential candidate for the position.
"And Deion Sanders, my brother, we go back a long ways. This is the most accurate and fair way to put it. I hope this happens for him. His resume doesn't warrant it. That is the reality," Smith said on ESPN's First Take.
The analyst brought out the former players' records as a head coach. During his three seasons as head coach at Jackson State University (2020–2022), Deion Sanders compiled an outstanding record of 27 wins and 6 losses, but his Colorado record (16-21) has not been that good.
"Yes, you had a winning season in Shedeur Sanders last year in Colorado. 9 and 4, right? You have two losing seasons, all right? You know, you were like 4 and 8 or whatever it was, the first year there. You were 3 and 9 last season," Smith said.
In the 2024 season, Sanders had his son Shedeur on his team and led the team to a 9-4 record. "When you won, it was with your son... So I have no doubt that if he were an NFL coach, that I believe he would do a good job. But the question is whether or not you deserve it," the NFL analyst said.
Now that the option of bringing him in as the Browns' head coach has closed, he is still finding ways to support his son, Shedeur Sanders, in his Pro Bowl selections.
Deion Sanders Backs His Son Shedeur Over Pro-Bowl Selection
Since Drake Maye cannot go to the Pro Bowl because he is playing in the Super Bowl, and names like Patrick Mahomes are out due to injuries, Shedeur Sanders has been selected as the alternate QB for the Pro Bowl.
And his father, Deion Sanders, was over the moon after he heard the news. “God is so darn good!!! That’s why we praise god morning, noon and night! Lord we thank you for it all,” Sanders posted on X on January 27.
Although not everyone shares the college football coach's enthusiasm. Many have criticized the QB and said that he does not deserve this position. What do you think?
