Stefanski Breaks Silence on His Future in Cleveland
Throughout the season, Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski maintained silence over topics of his job or future in the franchise. But on Monday, he opened up about his experience this year.
When ESPN’s Tony Grossi asked Stefanski if he wished to continue with the Browns, he didn’t say yes or no.
“As you can imagine, my sole focus is on this game versus Cincinnati,” Stefanski told Grossi.
"But I would also tell you, I'm privileged to have this job."
The Franchise under Stefanski didn’t always look like this. His current 7-26 record has overshadowed the two “AP Coach of the Year” awards he won in his six-year stint with them.
The Browns have played in the playoffs only once- the first being in 2002.
It was Stefanski who, after 18 years, pushed the team into the playoffs in 2020 and again in 2023.
Conflicting Opinions on Stefanski’s Year
On the Orange and Brown Talk podcast, Browns insider and journalist Mary Kay Cabot analyzed how the season turned out and said Stefanski has made multiple irredeemable mistakes.
“If they are looking for reasons to let go of Kevin Stefanski, they are finding them,” she said.
However, NFL reporters Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero maintained that the Browns’ management is aware of Stefasnki’s prowess.
“The Browns know Stefanski can coach, and he has maintained a consistent approach amid the adversity of a transition year with a young roster,” they reported.
Stefanski is surrounded by speculations and demands for clarity. In a press availability on 15 December, when he was last asked about his job, Stefanski maintained that his focus remains on completing the season.
“I don't get into those type of things…” Stefanski said. “I'm not going to get into those type of things. Not my focus.”
Earlier this year, in July, franchise owner Jimmy Haslam made it clear that the three wins did not make a successful year in 2024.
“Everybody: coaches, players, personnel, ownership all know that 3-14 won't cut it.”
According to Rapport, the Browns are set to make some difficult decisions, but will they really part with Stefasnki?
