$60M WR Confirms His Next NFL Destination After Suffering Eight Figure Loss

49ers' Brandon Aiyuk shared two photos of his next career move, each more telling than the previous. This message comes as the wide receiver continues to be at odds with San Francisco.

On June 6, the player uploaded an Instagram story of himself wearing a Washington Commanders hat. Another picture uploaded to his story showed him holding a ball, and was accompanied by a cryptic caption.

According to NBS Sports Bay Area, the message, filled with emojis, said, “Stop the cap, the gig is up."

The caption appeared to indicate that Aiyuk would finally be ending his journey with the 49ers and joining the Commanders.

In 2024, Aiyuk signed a four-year contract extension with the 49ers worth $120.0 million, with $45 million guaranteed at signing and a $76 million total guarantee package.

The contract included option bonuses of $22.855 million in 2025 and $24.935 million in 2026, and another $31 million in injury guarantees vested on April 1, 2025. His contract extension had created $8.399 million in cap savings for 2024.

After sustaining a serious knee injury, Aiyuk was absent from the 49ers. Later, reports of an extended absence and contract breaches emerged, resulting in a void contract.

He lost the future $27 million paycheck after the decision to void his contract, made in November last year, took effect. With the alteration, the 28-year-old has also lost his option bonus, which was worth $24.935 million, along with his $1.215 million base salary.

Ever since general manager John Lynch confirmed that Aiyuk would not be returning for the 2026 season, his name has been associated with the Commanders. However, his current franchise has yet to release him.

The wide receiver is also currently caught up in legal trouble related to speeding. If he does indeed join the Commanders, it would be a major positive development for his career.

Will The Washington Commanders Take In Brandon Aiyuk?

During the offseason, NFL insider Adam Schefter weighed in on the possibility of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk playing for the Washington Commanders.

“I think they will be holding onto him to see if there’s any trade value at all. Washington does make a lot of sense,” Schefter said on ESPN NFL Live on March 12. “He played with Jayden Daniels in college. They’re very close. I’m sure Jayden would love to play again with Brandon Aiyuk, but I don’t get the sense that the 49ers are in any rush to move on from Brandon Aiyuk even though we know eventually they will."

Before his injury, Aiyuk posted 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023, proving that he is undeniably talented. But his rift with the 49ers and legal troubles may become an obstacle.

On June 4, reports of the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office issuing a warrant for his arrest made headlines. He is facing a misdemeanor charge for exhibition of speeding in a video he posted in December, 2025.

With so many upsets occurring at once, joining the Washington Commanders and making a fresh start might be just what Aiyuk needs. What do you think? Tell us in the comments.
