On June 4, Jonathon Cooper, the Denver Broncos’ outside linebacker, was arrested on domestic violence charges. After he was booked at the Douglas County Jail in Colorado, Cooper apologized on social media.

“I realize posting a bible. Quote right after something very serious happens does not mean everything is okay. I apologize to my family to my friends and my community … And so many others,” Lucas Evans, a Denver Post writer, reported Cooper's Instagram stories. 

According to the police affidavit, Cooper, 28, and his girlfriend, Fiegen, argued over cheating allegations, which turned into a physical confrontation. Both of them were arrested.

The Broncos have made a public statement on the incident.

“We are aware of the matter and gathering more information,” they told the Associated Press.

Cooper had signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension in 2024 and had attended the team's offseason program this season. He was present at June 4’s OTA practice too. 

Police records state that the linebacker was arrested at 11:16 p.m. MT by Parker Police that day. He was formally booked into the jail at 2:38 a.m. on June 5. Cooper appeared in court on the morning of June 5 and was released on personal recognizance. 

He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 8. 

“According to jail records, Cooper was held at the Douglas County Jail (Colorado) on the suspicion of criminal mischief with a domestic violence enhancer,” ESPN reported on June 5.

Jonathon Cooper’s Career So Far

The Denver Broncos drafted Jonathon Cooper as the 239th pick overall in 2021. He has played for the franchise since then and appeared in 81 games. 

Out of 266 sacks, he recorded 145 individually and racked up 31.5 sacks. He recorded two forced fumbles and returned three fumbles. 

Cooper is an Ohio State alumnus and had second-team All-American honors. In his final season, he was the first player in the program’s history to wear the special Block O jersey.

His Ohio State Buckeyes career stands at 45 games, of which he started 25. He recorded 75 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks.
