Shipped Off Like Garbage: Baker Mayfield Openly Lashes Out Against Kevin Stefanski Over Browns’ Incident
There's going to be one bitter reunion for Kevin Stefanski in 2026 with Baker Mayfield. But months before that, the star QB dropped his remarks on a post on X.
D. Orlando Ledbetter, the Atlanta Falcons’ writer, posted a tweet about how Stefanski got unlucky with the quarterbacks. He took Mayfield and Deshaun Watson’s names, labeling them as “failures” during his tenure.
Well, Mayfield wasn't happy and took a dig at the two-time Coach of the Year.
“Failed is quite the reach pal. Still waiting on a text/call from him after I got shipped off like a piece of garbage. Can’t wait to see you twice a year, Coach,” he said.
Baker Mayfield was drafted by the Browns back in 2018 as the incoming Heisman winner. In his debut season, he fired 3,725 passing yards and 27 touchdowns. Later, when Stefanski arrived, Mayfield helped the Browns reach their first playoffs in 17 years in a season that saw him produce 3,563 yards and 26 touchdowns.
He threw for a combined 14,125 passing yards and scored 92 touchdowns. However, Cleveland traded him to the Panthers in 2022 when they acquired Deshaun Watson. Interestingly, Watson was never able to replicate Mayfield's success in Cleveland.
According to Mayfield’s heated response, Stefanski never called or texted him after his departure. And following Stefanski’s announcement of becoming the new Atlanta coach, the Falcons will face the Bucs twice next season in the NFC South.
10-time Pro Bowler Joe Thomas Backs Kevin Stefanski
While a lot of fans supported Baker Mayfield to speak up, the Cleveland Browns' legend, Joe Thomas supported Kevin Stefanski.
Responding to the Bucs' QB, Thomas took to X and stated that he also didn't make any efforts trying to communicate with Stefanski.
"I could be wrong...but I've heard that communication is a 2-way street and there were no laws against you (Baker) sending Stefanski a text or calling him after you got traded."
He recently came into the spotlight, joking about being on Stefanski's staff in the Falcons. Thomas' comments in defense of his former coach just display how close their relationship really is off the field.
