Shedeur Sanders trade talk picks up inside Browns QB situation
There is a new twist in the already messy quarterback situation of the Cleveland Browns. The franchise is reportedly receiving trade calls for Shedeur Sanders.
On June 22, ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Rizzo opined that the Browns’ four-quarterback roster is going to decrease in size.
“There are talks, ongoing calls, about the availability of Shedeur Sanders,” he said on his radio program. “The Browns, for whatever reason, don't think he's the guy, that's my opinion. And I'm sure they’ll say, ‘He's in a quarterback battle.’ Okay, but I'm gonna say right now for the record. I don't think the four quarterbacks are going to camp on July 28th.
Sanders, 24, has been vying for the starting quarterback position against Deshaun Watson this whole offseason. If these rumors are true, the Browns will eventually have their QB 1 at least for this season.
However, Rizzo put out a disclaimer on the news.
“Nothing is imminent, but the calls are being made, and I think it’s probably in the best interest of both parties here.”
The folks at ESPN Cleveland are not the only ones hearing about a trade. In a post with over 783.2k views, NFL rumors shared the same.
“The #Browns are reportedly receiving trade calls about Pro-Bowl QB Shedeur Sanders,” they posted on June 22.
Sanders’ trajectory in the Browns has been tumultuous. In 2025, he was then benched as a backup QB in favor of Dillon Gabriel and did not play until Week 11.
He ended his rookie season with 1,400 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Watson's return thrust him into yet another QB1 race going into his sophomore year.
The Browns entered the June 1 window with a blockbuster trade of defensive end Myles Garrett. They traded him to the Los Angeles Rams, which leads to the question: what are Sanders’ options?
Three landing options for Shedeur Sanders in a possible offseason trade
As trade buzz surrounds Shedeur Sanders, the Browns Wire assessed the situation and identified three teams that could be interested in him.
Writer Dylan Feltovich opined that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Detroit Lions, and lastly, the Green Bay Packers, make “perfect sense” if they acquired Sanders.
The Buccaneers already have a quarterback who played for the Browns once: Baker Mayfield. However, low production last season and with one year left on the contract, their front office could find the desired replacement in Sanders.
“Tampa Bay is the perfect destination for Sanders to spend the 2026 season behind the 31-year-old veteran and compete for the starting job in 2027,” he wrote on June 22.
The Lions need a younger passer against or after Jared Goff. If they cut him loose after June 1 in 2027, they can save $30 million in cap space, the article stated.
Feltovich wrote that with the Packers, Sanders can develop behind Jordan Love in a team in better conditions than the Browns.
