Shedeur Sanders & Teammates Publicly Baptized on Sunday
With the season fast approaching, Shedeur Sanders and the Cleveland Browns continue sorting out their quarterback situation. As that battle takes shape, the team recently participated in a gathering focused on Christian faith and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
On Sunday, June 7, the Browns club members hosted a Christian event, where the players publicly received baptism.
The gathering featured worship music, personal testimonies, prayers, and baptism, as reported by MLFootball.
Among those in attendance were quarterback Shedeur Sanders, running back Raheim Sanders, cornerback Tyson Campbell, safety Daniel Thomas, and team chaplain Nobles C. Darby.
“It’s so important to share your testimony,” Thomas told Sunday’s crowd, according to Sports Spectrum. “I encourage my teammates, anybody around me, because I look at it like this: A lot of people are not going to church, so you might be the only Bible that somebody ever reads. It’s important how we carry ourselves on and off the field.”

Having been teammates in Jacksonville Jaguars for four seasons, Campbell and Thomas shared a connection that extended beyond football. During an appearance on the Sports Spectrum Podcast before the 2024 campaign, Thomas spoke about his faith in Jesus and his desire to share those beliefs with others.
At the Cleveland for Christ event, he joined Darby and Campbell in an event focused on Christian faith and community.
The 2025 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, linebacker Carson Schwesinger, was one of several Browns players who were baptized in the pool during the event.
As the baptism event unfolded, the Browns' quarterback battle remained an ongoing storyline.
Shedeur Sanders Sparks Excitement, Delays Browns’ QB1 Verdict
As the minicamp approaches, Shedeur has made a strong late surge for himself during the OTAs, igniting the quarterback debate once again. The problem? Well, the Browns were expecting Deshaun Watson to take the quarterback position, but now head coach Todd Monken has ample reason to keep the quarterback competition wide open.
Monken recently said the Browns have “two starting-caliber quarterbacks,” referring to Sanders and Watson. He has also been highly appreciative of Sanders and his recent surge in development.
“I got a ton of respect for Shedeur because all he’s done since I’ve been here is work. That’s all he’s done is compete. He was here early in the offseason,” Monken said, as reported by Heavy.com. “So, it’s been great.”
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Monken indicated that the Browns may not finalize their quarterback depth chart by the end of minicamp and could wait until training camp to determine their QB1.
The mandatory minicamp, which begins on June 8 and runs through June 11, will be Sanders' last chance to reclaim the job. If he fails to do so, Watson appears set to open the season as the Browns' starting quarterback.
With the Browns still searching for clarity at quarterback, what are your thoughts on players participating in the team's offseason baptism event? Share your thoughts.
