Shedeur Sanders Sends Strong Message to Critics With Bold Claim Over Future
After a terrible loss against the Chicago Bears, Shedeur Sanders took a stand.
Going for 18 in 35 while throwing for 177 yards without a touchdown, fans questioned if Shedeur should continue to be QB1. Well, Sanders has a response to questions about his job security.
“You know what league we’re in? You can lose your job at any point in time. So you don’t play with fear. When you live and play in fear, then you’ll never be yourself. So I don’t play or live in fear. Whatever situation I’m in, I’m in. Whatever happens, it happens. But I live each moment and try to live each day in the fullest. So never live and worry or fear."
Sanders threw three interceptions in the game. And while some of his attempts for touchdowns were dropped by teammates, it was still a poor performance against a good defense. However, head coach Kevin Stefanski backed his QB and that's part of the reason behind Sanders' confidence.
“I’m obviously thinking about just this game and those types of things. He’s a young player who is making progress, and I see it in games. I get to see it in practice... Obviously, we came up short, all of us. We came up short. So you learn from it, and you apply those lessons in the future."
In any case, Shedeur has more passing yards than Dillon Gabriel and roughly the same number of touchdowns. Outside of Gabriel, they don't have an option, since Watson is still not fully recovered.
So will Shedeur Sanders keep his job for the next season?
If the Browns do not use Desahun Watson for the next season, they have two choices: either go with Sanders or Dillon Gabirel or bring in Heisman-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
The problem with Mendoza is that before the Browns, the Raiders might get their hands on him because they also need a QB, and they were the second pick after the New York Giants. The Browns currently have the 4th pick.
In such a case, it might be a smart move to draft offensive and defensive players to build around Sanders. Nathan Zegura discussed the massive benefit of it in The Dawgs Podcast.
"The best case scenario is that Shedeur Sanders continues to show improvement, wins 1 or 2 of these games, and then give this kid a full offseason. You can go draft a Carnell Tate, draft a tackle. You can turn this around pretty quickly."
