On Sunday, rookie Shedeur Sanders made what was possibly one of his worst calls yet against the Steelers. The 2nd & 5 in the fourth quarter, Shedeur Sanders' throw highlighted one of his biggest weaknesses.

“Shedeur knows he wants that one back,” Tony Romo said. “That's as poor a decision as he's made in his young career. He's young, but you can't just throw it up for grabs," he added after Sanders threw his second interception of the day.

However, the rookie QB is learning from every mistake he's made so far. In a post-game conference on Monday, Sanders opened up about his learning curve after he became the starting quarterback.

“The main thing is, I just love throwing the ball,” he said. “I'm able to see the field and the game slow down for sure. In some situations, you can't just throw your dog a bone. You've got to know when it's calculated risk," admitted Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders completed 17 passes out of 23 in the Browns' 13-6 win against the Steelers. However, that desperate throw to Jerry Jeudy counted as one of the easiest interceptions made against the Browns.

Romo wasn't the only one who reacted to Sander's poor throw, either. His father, Deion Sanders, reacted to the play by covering his eyes with his cowboy hat.

However, Shedeur Sanders did explain the reasoning behind his decision. "I feel like our players are better than their players, so I just gave my guy a chance."

However, these throws could cost Shedeur Sanders

While the QB is still learning, the Browns aren't in a position to offer too much slack to Sanders. According to NFL expert Ian Rapaport, the team ownership and management are determined to pull out weak links and make some difficult choices.

“Some change would make sense based on how tough a season it has been,” he reported.

Rumors indicate Head Coach Kevin Stefanski may be among the first to go. So it's safe to say making too many mistakes could prove costly for Sanders, as Deshaun Watson is expected to return as the team's starting QB in 2026.

The Browns also hold the 3rd draft pick for 2026 and could pick up another QB. So where Shedeur Sanders ends up in the lineup could depend on his overall performance this season.

That being said, Sanders has also shown flashes of brilliance, like racking up 364 yards against the Titans, while scoring 3 passing and one rushing touchdown. Yet, with only one game left in the 2025 season, Sanders needs to prove he learns from his mistakes.
