Shedeur Sanders has earned a special honor for his work away from the football field.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback was named the NFLPA’s Week 3 Community MVP after giving back to students in East Cleveland. Sanders visited Kirk Middle School and Caledonia Elementary School, where he handed out 500 backpacks filled with school supplies.

News 5 Cleveland’s Camryn Justice reported that Sanders partnered with Chase Bank, the East Cleveland City School District, and Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT! Program for the event. The students also received pizza and ice cream during the surprise visit.

Sanders then explained his motivation to Justice, saying he wanted to visit areas that do not always receive positive attention. He also stressed the importance of attendance and encouraged students to keep building good habits.

The honor also comes with a $10,000 donation from the NFLPA to Sanders’ Legendary Impact Foundation. It gives the Browns quarterback another notable moment in Cleveland, even before he's had a chance to shine on the field this season.

Deshaun Watson has started Cleveland’s first two games, including Sunday’s 23-19 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders has yet to take a snap after competing with Watson for the job in camp.

Cleveland hosts the Carolina Panthers in Week 3, giving Todd Monken a chance to evaluate the room. Sanders’ community recognition arrives alongside questions about when he could enter the Browns’ offensive plans.

While Watson remains the starter, Sanders still awaits his big opportunity.
