Shedeur Sanders Halts Trade Rumors Ahead of Week 9 Game Against the Saints
Shedeur Sanders has been waiting for his opportunity to become the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback. However, despite an impressive preseason, he was passed over for Deshaun Watson before the 2026 campaign.
That decision left Sanders waiting on the sidelines, with limited opportunities to showcase his abilities. Meanwhile, trade speculation began gathering momentum, particularly after he hired an agent in October.
Now, Sanders could finally get his chance. Watson entered concussion protocol after reporting symptoms following Cleveland's loss to Pittsburgh. Consequently, Sanders has been preparing with the first team ahead of Sunday's matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
Although Watson has not officially been ruled out, the Browns are preparing for the possibility of Sanders making his first start this season.
During Wednesday's press conference, Sanders was questioned about whether hiring an agent carried any significance regarding his future in Cleveland. However, the young quarterback quickly dismissed the suggestion.
“What that got to do with this game? I'm focused on this game. Anything else really don't matter at this point.”
Sanders clearly has little interest in entertaining speculation right now. With a potential starting opportunity finally within reach, his attention remains firmly on preparing for New Orleans.
Shedeur Sanders Refuses to Take Credit Away From Deshaun Watson
Sanders also showed support for Watson during Wednesday's media session. He acknowledged the veteran's contribution to Cleveland's campaign and refused to suggest he could immediately improve the offense.
Instead, Sanders emphasized the importance of trusting his teammates, following the game plan and doing his job.
That response reflects his approach heading into a potentially career-defining opportunity. Now, he has a chance to turn months of waiting into something meaningful.
