While evaluating quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ rookie season performance, Josh Aul, a Cleveland Browns media personality, concluded that Sanders has been wrongfully judged. Then, the Dawgs podcast stated how Sanders’ stats have been calculated incorrectly.

“Shedeur Sanders had just 175.0 YPG in 2025, which was 36th among QBs,” the podcast wrote on X. “Except that’s not really true. That stat includes one half of relief duty against the Ravens (when the offensive line had to learn his cadence in the tunnel). Not a full game.”

In 2025, Sanders played in eight games but started seven. This is because Dillon Gabriel was the starter in his first ever NFL matchup against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10. 

Sanders replaced him at halftime because Gabriel sustained a concussion, after which he took over for the remaining season. By the time Sanders became the starting quarterback, the Browns had faced seven losses in a season that would end 5-12. 

He threw for 1,400 passing yards, scored seven touchdowns against ten interceptions. The analysts over at The Dawgs then defended Sanders against the long-standing criticism hurled at him. 

“I did this the other day, and I'm going to do like a full breakdown on social media,” podcast co-host Aul said on July 15.

His comments were then followed by the July 17 X post breaking down Sanders’ stats.

“In his 7 games as the starter, Shedeur averaged 193.3 YPG, which was 27th among QBs (it was also more than Deshaun Watson has averaged in any season in Cleveland),” the post elaborated.

This opposes the notion that Sanders averaged 175 yards per game, as noted by Pro Football Reference. The Dawgs argue that he ranked 36th in the NFL overall and that he put up the 14th-most passing yards in 2025 from his seven starts. 

ESPN placed Jacoby Brissett of the Arizona Cardinals at No. 14 on its list. After this post went up, fans flooded the comments saying it reeks of bias for Sanders.

NFL fans call out The Dawgs for rallying behind Shedeur Sanders

Under their X post backing Shedeur Sanders’ rookie year performance, critics shared that The Dawgs are trying to keep his hype afloat.

“From 36th to 27th…He gonna be 25th next season and ya’ll gonna celebrate,” one commented on the reporting.

“He still s****, and the fact that you keep carrying water for him is pathetic,” one opined on his performance and called out the support he receives. 

“These guys have sold out for Shedeur too. I hope it lasts, cuz if they take a QB, next season, you’re cooked. I’ll be here to remind everyone of your biased reporting. But, but, but…” another said.

“holy s*** this is so sad o***. You’re altering hard facts to push your narrative?? How about this one… remove all the times he had a screen pass go for 50+,” one commented, highlighting the difference in stats on PFR and ESPN.

“Also let’s talk about how he’s being compared to QBs who started twice the amount of games he did last year which makes no sense,” one wrote.

The Dawgs stated that Sanders’ stats make him better than Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward, Lamar Jackson, Bryce Young, Jordan Love and Jaxson Dart.
