Shaquil Barrett Weighs In on Myles Garrett’s Record-Breaking Opportunity

‘Will he? Won’t he?’ is exactly what Myles Garrett has everybody wondering as the Browns are hours away from facing off against the Browns.

This Week 18 matchup is Garrett’s last opportunity to match or surpass an NFL record. And former linebacker Shaquil Barrett is confident that Garrett will make history.

In a Saturday interview with TMZ Sports, Barrett stated that the Browns' offense has an important role to play this Sunday. When asked if Garrett has any chances to record sacks, he shrugged and replied: “It depends on what with the offence.”

“If the offense don’t want him to take care of business, they going to have the bodies over there to keep from being able to get there.”

The Browns’ offense has been abysmal this season. With 16.2 Points Per Game, they ranked 31st, at the bottom of the chart, just above the Raiders. Their average rushing yards is 95.7 for 10 touchdowns. The Browns are ranked 29th for average passing yards with 170.3 yards and 16 touchdowns.

And yet, Garrett had persevered and recorded 22 sacks. If he makes one more, Garrett will surpass the record shared between Hall of Famer Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt. Barrett reaffirmed that the 29-year-old will do it.

“But I know Myles Garrett, he got plenty of sacks, when he beating two guys, three guys. So I think he probably will get it,” he said.

“He’s too close to not get it. He’s too hungry it.”

Hoping the Browns have prepared their game plan keeping his record in mind, Barrett said, “somebody on his team better sacrifice. Like, just help him get it.”

He further said, “If anybody’s gonna do it, I think it he’s the guy who deserves to do it.”

It is tragic to watch the Browns fail a talented player like Garrett over and over again. The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year awardee made his ambition to compete in the Super Bowl clear before his request for a trade was absolutely shut down by the franchise management.

How Is Myles Garrett Holding Up

After the matchup against the Bears, Garrett confessed that the record was “always in reach.” He also clarified that he neither feels pressure nor any insecurity.  “It’s going down,” he said.

But in a Saturday media session, Garrett shared how he felt about his six years with the Browns.

“Unfortunately, more downs than ups,” he stated. “I would have loved to make a little bit more noise in some different years, especially this year. But it's buzzing under the cards, so you gotta continue growing and find ways to improve because another team has too many talented individuals not to.”

We’re only hours away from seeing if the Browns get their act together and play well to see Garrett make history.
