Shannon Sharpe Weighs in on Browns’ Future, Identifies Just Three Untouchables on Roster
Shannon Sharpe believes the Cleveland Browns need a full teardown. As the Browns are currently 4-13 heading into their final game of the regular season, the Hall of Famer says only three players should survive the roster purge.
"You need a quarterback. So you might as well clean out everything. Everything must go. Fannin Jr, Myles Garrett, and Denzel Ward. Anything else you can make me an offer?" Shannon Sharpe said.
All three of them have racked up good numbers for the Browns this season. Harold Fannin Jr. has had 72 catches for 731 yards and has scored 7 touchdowns in 16 games in his rookie season. He has the 9th-most receiving yards as a rookie TE in NFL history.
Then there is Denzel Ward, who has recorded 29 solo tackles, 10 assists, and 1 interception in 14 games this season. He hasn't allowed more than 80 yards in a game in five years (Ohio State + Cleveland).
And finally, Myles Garrett, who has had 42 solo tackles, 17 assists, and 22.0 sacks in 16 games this season. He is just one sack away from breaking the record of TJ Watts and Michael Strahan for most sacks in a season (22.5).
That being said, Sharpe's comments have shown that he does have faith in some of the young talent the Browns acquired.
Shanon Sharpe on Shedeur Sanders?
Sharpe has been supporting Shedeur Sanders. He publicly defended him when the Browns didn’t give him the game ball after he led the team to a win in his first NFL start. He was also critical of the Browns organization, saying that they have not properly supported Sanders’ development.
However, he's also offered constructive criticism. “Shedeur you’re playing so well. Why throw the 🏈 up 4 grabs in the middle of the field? Damn it,” Shannon Sharpe tweeted during the Browns vs. Titans game.
This was when Sanders threw under pressure on 2nd-and-20, allowing the Titans to gain possession with a minute and a half left in the third quarter.
So, while Shanon Sharpe seems to support cleaning house, he's also shown faith in rookies like Sanders. But do you agree with the former NFL star's take?
