Shannon Sharpe Sends Advice To Super Bowl Champions Over Potentially Serious Disorder

The pressure of defending a championship does not end when the confetti falls. For NFL players, the physical strain often carries into the offseason, and as per Shannon Sharpe, one potentially serious disorder should not be ignored by Super Bowl champions.

Recently, Sharpe replied to a post of a two-time Super Bowl champion, Kyle Van Noy, on X.

"I have 1 as well. Heard they’re coming out with medicine, and they already have a surgery available. I sleep so much better with the machine," Sharpe wrote May 28.

He replied to Van Noy's post, where the linebacker was seeking advice of people going through the same thing.

"So I suffer from sleep apnea and I have a cpap! Has anyone solved this issue where they don’t have to use a cpap anymore. I would love any advice or pointed in the right direction to get off that d*** thing," Van Noy posted on X.

Sleep apnea has been considered a hidden issue among NFL players. Football players face a higher risk of developing sleep apnea compared to the general population. The Baltimore Ravens linebacker, Kyle Van Noy, struggled with severe sleep apnea for years.

Sleep apnea caused Van Noy to frequently wake up gasping for air. Since he started treatment with a CPAP machine, his sleep quality and overall performance have improved.

Super Bowl champion Aaron Taylor shared that treating his sleep apnea improved his quality of life and energy levels. For the champions, maintaining peak performance needs attention to every detail.

That said, Sharpe weighed in on the ongoing debate regarding quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray.

Shannon Sharpe Runs Out of Patience with J.J. McCarthy

During the Minnesota Vikings' OTAs, McCarthy used a classroom analogy to talk about this relationship with the other QB in the room, Kyler Murray. And Sharpe gave a pointed response to that.

“It’s his fault. Had you played better, Kyler Murray’s services would not have been needed,” said Sharpe on The Nightcap podcast. “The mere fact that they got Kyler Murray in there tells you everything you need to know, J.J. McCarthy."

McCarthy was a first-round 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The QB missed the entire season that year. He did play 10 games last year and threw more interceptions (12) than touchdowns (11).

So, after every expectation not being met by McCarthy, the Vikings went on to sign Murray. Looks like it didn't sit well with McCarthy.

“It’s just like two guys in a classroom,” McCarthy said Wednesday. “He sits on one side, I sit on the other side, and it’s the coaches’ responsibility to teach us and coach us.”
